Your zip code surprisingly can hold the key to health equity. During their discussion, David Paragamian, CEO of Health Monitor Network, and Dr. Julius Wilder, MD, PhD from Duke School of Medicine, explore the intricacies of addressing and enhancing health equity for patients in ALL communities, especially those that are underserved. One area where inclusivity across all demographics is crucial but not always happening? Clinical trials. Dr. Wilder delves into an innovative project aiming to establish a central hub in Durham, North Carolina to address this issue on a local level. With the Central Hub concept in NC, Dr. Wilder is pioneering collaboration with community health workers to get underserved patients represented and participating in clinical trials so their specific health needs can be better understood, and more tailored treatment can be designed. Although geographical location plays a crucial role in determining health equity and literacy, there is no one size fits all solution to this complex issue. Is men's health a priority for them? There is a belief that men often overlook their health when it comes to setting up regular appointments with doctors. And some of the stats do back that up: with only 3 out of 5 men getting regular annual physicals, only 40% of men going to the doctor when they think they have a serious medical condition and more than 50% of men saying they don’t talk about their health. However, there is good news on the horizon—recent research by McKinsey suggests that younger consumers are starting to challenge these stats. Research shows that Gen-Z consumers are at the forefront of buying health and wellness products, with a majority prioritizing staying fit and healthy. We can empower all the men in our lives to prioritize their well-being by emphasizing the significance of preventative screenings, maintaining good health habits and making proactive choices to ensure a healthier future throughout their lives.
