To gain a deeper understanding of forest management and mass timber, design leadership from the education and science sectors of our architecture practice visited Oregon State University and spoke with Tom DeLuca, the dean of the College of Forestry. DeLuca, an expert in forest soils, soil microbiology, biochemistry and ecosystem ecology, provided us with valuable insights. Colorado Department of Transportation's new SIMSA tool is helping improve the inspection and maintenance of thousands of bridges and structures across the state—part of our efforts to create better communities through better mobility. Accessible in the office or in the field, the system manages inspections, stores photos and documents, reports on asset status and more. Assisting CDOT, we helped build the web-based tool from the ground up, getting input from those who will be using it daily. https://lnkd.in/g5-_dWif

Creating a new unified file format for exchanging 3D models and digital data across software applications is a huge undertaking with far-reaching implications for the bridge industry. Julie Rivera, our Illinois/Indiana bridge program lead, is helping to make this happen as a leader on the BIM for Bridges and Structures Pooled Fund Program. This initiative funded by more than 20 states, the Federal Highway Administration and AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials), is an industry-leading effort that will transform how bridge designs are developed and managed for decades to come. Read more about the program in an article co-authored by Julie with James Hauber of the Iowa Department of Transportation in the latest issue of ASPIRE - The Concrete Bridge Magazine: https://lnkd.in/gykFgGcg
