"Caring for those in their time of need is our greatest calling at HCA Healthcare, and I am deeply moved by the resilience and compassion of our colleagues," said Sam Hazen, chief executive officer of HCA Healthcare. HCA Florida Healthcare colleague Kim Jannke, a patient care tech and nurse extern on the neuro telemetry unit, faced a daunting challenge when Hurricane Helene struck Crystal River, Florida. When Kim was finally able to leave her home, she found unwavering support at HCA Florida Citrus Hospital. A mini market set up on-site offered food and cleaning supplies to help her recover from the devastation. Laundry and shower trailers were also made available to colleagues impacted by the storm. She was also encouraged to apply for assistance through the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund. Amidst the stress of losing her furniture and food and dealing with the pressures of nursing school, Kim feels a profound sense of gratitude for her HCA Healthcare family. The swift response and support during such a challenging time exemplifies the commitment to community and compassion that defines HCA Healthcare's mission. At HCA Florida Healthcare and our larger HCA Healthcare network compassion goes beyond patient care for our more than 309,000 colleagues – it extends to showing up for each other during tough times. Through the generosity of our colleagues, the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund ensures our colleagues do not have to face challenges alone. The Hope Fund is a 501(c)(3) charity run by colleagues, for colleagues. Those who give to the Hope Fund are supporting colleagues and their families who face financial hardship due to natural disaster, illness or injury, domestic violence, death of a loved one or other unexpected situations. ➡️ HCA Healthcare colleagues impacted by Hurricane Helene can visit the Hope Fund’s website to learn more and apply to request assistance. “I am excited that HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital has chosen to pursue innovative neurosurgical procedures such as focused ultrasound,” Dr. Horowitz says. “These breakthrough therapies significantly improve patient quality of life, giving patients the opportunity to function more autonomously in day-to-day activities that many of us take for granted. By investing in procedures such as this one, HCA Healthcare is illustrating its dedication to the care and improvement of human life in our community.” HCA Florda Orange Park is the first hospital in Northeast Florida to offer an innovative noninvasive treatment option for patients with essential tremor (ET) syndrome and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease. Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida's Big Bend area late Thursday as a Category 4 Hurricane, before moving into Georgia as a Category 1 hurricane. As destructive winds and heavy rainfall progressed across both states, HCA Healthcare colleagues stood ready to serve those who needed care. Doctors, nurses, facilities management, environmental services, food services and other HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues came together to prepare our facilities for potential impact. In advance of the storm, HCA Healthcare's Nashville-based Enterprise Emergency Operations Center (EEOC) provided critical resources and worked with our Emergency Medical Services partners to transport patients from high-risk areas to other facilities for safety. The EEOC's Incident Support Team pre-positioned flood control barriers and readiness equipment. Caregivers were stationed on-site, calming the nerves of patients, maintaining safety and continuing to provide uninterrupted care. Thank you to our colleagues for meeting Hurricane Helene with courage, compassion and a steadfast resolve to care for our patients and the communities we serve. ➡️ As impacted areas of the southeastern United States begin the process of clearing fallen trees, restoring electricity and assessing home damage, it is our priority to take care of our patients as well as each other. The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund is a colleague-run, colleague-supported 501(c)(3) charity that helps HCA Healthcare families through unexpected crises, disasters and other challenging situations. HCA Healthcare colleagues impacted by the storm can visit the Hope Fund's website to learn more and submit an application to request assistance. As the Southeast grapples with the widespread devastation of Hurricane #Helene, HCA Healthcare patients are feeling the prevailing force of our clinicians and colleagues. The unpredictable nature of Hurricane Helene’s path right up to landfall meant that our hospitals and care teams in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas remained on high alert the past several days, ready to take steps to ensure patient safety. Their determination meant not just that outstanding patient care was delivered during extraordinary circumstances, but that HCA Healthcare honored our ongoing responsibility to the communities that we serve. Leading up to the storm, HCA Healthcare activated its Nashville-based Enterprise Emergency Operations Center (EEOC), comprised of nearly 200 multi-disciplinary leaders, including risk management, clinical experts, supply chain, patient logistics, air and ground transport and community liaison representatives. The EEOC is working alongside hospital leadership to distribute key resources to care teams in the Southeastern U.S. before, during and after the catastrophic storm. Please join us as we pay tribute to our resilient caregivers, support teams and emergency operations colleagues. Thank you for your courage and for showing up for our patients when they need us the most. #CareLikeFamily #HCAEmergencyOperations

Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15) is a monthlong celebration recognizing the historical legacy and contributions of the Hispanic community. We honor the experiences, stories and traditions interwoven in the rich tapestry of Hispanic culture and recognize the achievements that have helped shape our nation. Today, we’re continuing the “Power of One Experience” series, which aims to amplify influential moments in our colleagues’ lives. Today, HCA Florida Healthcare colleague Adriana Rojas, who performs critical lab diagnostics as a medical technologist at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, shares her experience. Adriana’s Latin heritage and Venezuelan background profoundly influenced her decision to pursue a career in healthcare. “My heritage has taught me the importance of working hard and following my dreams, despite the challenges,” she shared. “A defining moment in my life was receiving my certification as a medical technologist. It marked the culmination of a stage of hard work and opened new opportunities for my growth in this country that welcomed me as an immigrant.” Adriana continues, “I have worked as a housekeeper, a restaurant cook and a packer, but during the pandemic I felt a great motivation to take the test and obtain the certification. The challenges and pressures facing the healthcare system were unprecedented, and I saw firsthand how vital accurate testing and diagnostics were to managing the spread of COVID-19. I was inspired by the dedication of those on the front lines and wanted to contribute in a meaningful way.” Thank you, Adriana, for sharing how your unique story led you to HCA Healthcare and for the significant impact you’re making in your community. #PositiveImpact #HispanicHeritageMonth
