We're happy to announce a research collaboration with Université de Montréal’s affiliated hospital research centre, the CRCHUM, to evaluate treatment effectiveness in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) with metastases confined to the liver. The study will use Haystack MRD™ to assess circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as an early biological marker of treatment response and disease recurrence in patients with mCRC undergoing systemic treatment and liver surgery with curative intent. At the recent American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting (#ASCO24), Dr Jeanne Tie presented a 5-year update on the DYNAMIC study, which previously showed that ctDNA testing could reduce adjuvant chemotherapy use by half in patients with stage II colorectal cancer without compromising survival. In the update, Dr Tie shared that both overall survival and recurrence-free survival were roughly equivalent between patients whose chemo decisions were based on ctDNA testing and those who received standard care. At the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (#ASCO24) meeting, Dr Andrea Cercek spoke about exciting results for a PD-1 inhibitor drug trial in rectal cancer. As an exploratory biomarker in the study, circulating tumor DNA (#ctDNA) was analyzed by Haystack Onocology. Among the various detection methods explored in the study, ctDNA testing was the fastest indicator of clinical response, with a median time to complete clinical response (cCR) of 1.38 months—around 4.8 months faster than the main study endpoint of cCR by endoscopy and rectal MRI.
