Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group.   While we all need to always be as aware of our surroundings as we can, we can’t always keep track of what’s going on in every area of a job site. Barricades, signage, and controlled access zones (CAZ) are all safety measures that help keep everyone safe by alerting them to hazards they may not otherwise be aware of.    Use signs around areas that present fall hazards. When working at height or with tools that cause sparks, ensure that the zone underneath or around your work area is set up as a CAZ. If you’re in the line of fire, you’re putting yourself at risk from objects that may move or energy that may be released. To avoid the line of fire, you need to be aware of the line of fire. Always stay situationally aware, and before beginning a task, review the position of yourself, your coworkers, and equipment or objects in the area. An effective way to assess for line of fire hazards is to use the Energy Wheel and go through potential energy sources near you. Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group.   Fatigue is a widespread issue, especially when it comes to jobsite safety, and it goes beyond just feeling tired. When you’re fatigued, you experience reduced motivation, and your body and mind must work harder to focus and complete tasks. You can also experience symptoms such as slowed reaction time, difficulty communicating, and impaired selective attention. To prevent this, prioritize getting enough sleep at night. For most people this means 7-8 hours.
