About us

The mission of the HAPS Alliance is to eliminate the digital divide and bring connectivity to more people, places and things worldwide by using high altitude platform stations (HAPS) operating 20km above Earth in the stratosphere. The Alliance brings together some of the world's most recognizable companies across telecommunications, technology, aviation and aerospace. United in the goal of promoting HAPS technology, the Alliance was founded in 2020.

    Member spotlight 🔦 The Technology Park of Fuerteventura (PTFSA) -- home to one of the world's leading HAPS ground infrastructure initiatives -- is one of the many great HAPS Alliance members. Located in the Canary Islands, PTSFA is developing a HAPS testing ground that includes: 🛩️ A 900-meter runway to accommodate a variety of aviation use-cases 🎯 A 500-meter radius obstacle-free zone to allow for safe HAPS deployment and retrieval testing 🏗️ Complete auxiliary infrastructure for controlled operations And there's more on the way 👀 🔧 Further developing ground infrastructure for HAPS testing 📊 Building a smart center for mission control 🔬 Supporting startups and companies in HAPS innovation PTSFA sees the HAPS Alliance as a crucial organization to connect stakeholders, inform regulators, and shape the future of HAPS technology.     Congratulations to Sceye on completing their final test flight of 2024. This successful flight achieved a number of key milestones 🎯 ✈️ Controlled relocation at stratospheric heights 🌓 Proved full day-and-night flight capability 📍 Demonstrated extended station-keeping ability 2024 was a big year of progress for Sceye. Next up, the company is planning to take its first steps into commercialization in 2025. Stay tuned 👀

    Last week, on October 24th, we completed a flawless launch and flight, which achieved all test objectives in the full characterization of our High-Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS). This marked the final flight in our 2024 Control Dynamics program, which accomplished the ambitious milestones of controlled relocation, full diurnal flight, and the ability to stay over an area of operation for extended periods of time. This pivotal step showcased readiness for our upcoming 2025 Endurance Program and our first step into commercialization. Thank you to our incredible team, partners, and supporters who have helped us reach new heights.

    What happens when disaster strikes and communications go dark? Russel Van Der Werff from Aerostar (Aerostar International LLC) breaks down how HAPS technology is revolutionizing emergency response. ️ ⛈ When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, HAPS platforms restored cell service across the entire island in just 3 days - even providing service in some places where it didn't previously exist. 🚒  USDA Forest Service is using HAPS to extend connectivity directly to firefighters and provide real-time infrared mapping capabilities ⏱  From ground to stratosphere in just 3.5 hours - that's how quickly HAPS platforms can deploy to disaster zones, providing near-immediate communication infrastructure when ground systems are damaged. These helium-filled platforms are quick to deploy and perfect for tasks like disaster response and telecommunications. 🚀 Airship HAPS: These lighter-than-air vehicles are the heavyweight champions, carrying large payloads while hovering steadily in the stratosphere.
