H3X has been awarded a $1.9M TACFI contract with the United States Air Force to advance hybrid-electric powerplants for eVTOL aircraft in military operations. We’re excited to build on our successful Phase II work with AFWERX and continue our collaboration. Electrified aircraft have the potential to provide the Air Force with a range of cost-effective crewed and uncrewed aircraft capable of performing new and valuable missions. These aircraft offer operational independence from traditional runways, increased maneuverability, and the ability to operate from decentralized bases. Hybrid-electric propulsion systems, which combine an engine with an electric machine to generate electricity for propulsion, are now making it possible to harness the benefits of electric motors while also leveraging the superior energy density of liquid fuels. This architecture allows for greater range and endurance, while also eliminating the need for charging infrastructure in forward operating locations, further enhancing their operational utility. This ensures that electric aircraft can meet operational requirements for mission success while benefiting from the strengths of both technologies.

Today we are announcing that we have officially closed our $20M Series A funding round! The round was led by Infinite Capital, with participation from Hanwha Asset Management Co., Ltd., Cubit Capital, Origin Ventures, Industrious Ventures, Venn10 Capital, LP, and follow-on investors that include Lockheed Martin, Metaplanet, Liquid 2 Ventures, and TechNexus Venture Collaborative. This funding will primarily be used to: 1. Scale up production and operations to deliver on some very large aerospace and defense contracts in our pipeline. 2. Finish development of our megawatt-class machines. 3. Continue to improve the robustness and reliability of our core technology through endurance, thermal cycling, and accelerated aging testing. We couldn't have reached this point without an amazing group of customers, advisors, investors, partners, and most of all, everyone at H3X. While we're celebrating this milestone, we will not rest on our laurels and will continue to push at a relentless pace towards our mission of becoming the world leader in electric motors to enable sustainable aviation, decarbonize the marine and industrial sectors, and unlock next-generation electrified defense technology. One of our customers asked us if we could de-integrate our axial inverter and sell it in a standalone package so they could use it to drive some pumps and other loads on their aircraft. We said sure, no problem. Two months later, we’re shipping out the first four HPDI-190s! Here are the notable features: + Silicon Carbide (SiC) three-phase inverter + Continuous Power: 190 kW (at PF=1) + Max Bus Voltage: 450VDC or 800VDC + Max Phase Current: 190 Arms + Mass: 2 kg + Power Density: 95 kW/kg + Peak Efficiency: > 99% + Control Modes: Torque, speed, generator (voltage setpoint) + Integrated common mode filtering If you need an extremely power dense inverter, shoot us a message!

We had the privilege of sitting down with Rory Jackson from our favorite magazine, E-Mobility Engineering, to discuss our technology and how we are pushing out the pareto curve of electric motor performance to unlock widespread commercial electric aviation. This cover story goes deeper than ever before and we uncover everything from the #electricmotor design to the #powerelectronics and the integration between them. If you take away one thing from this article, it should be that there is that there is no silver bullet. Getting to >10 kW/kg power density requires significant advancements in several different areas. While many competitors rely on complex topologies and traditional optimization techniques to achieve higher power density, the performance levels needed for electric aviation require us to go a step further by questioning the most fundamental assumptions that feed into the engineering optimization process. This has driven H3X to innovate on a deeper level with new materials, in-house manufacturing technologies, and novel integration techniques.
