We understand that this is a very difficult time for those who reside in the Southeastern United States. If you or your loved ones are facing the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, please know our deepest thoughts are with you. While navigating this, remember that safety should be top of mind. If flooding has occurred and items remain wet for 24-48 hours, mold can start to grow and become airborne, potentially making the air toxic to breathe. Here are some key cleanup tips to help you and your loved ones stay safe and get back on track. * Make sure to wear an N-95 respirator and protective clothing. * When sorting materials, you should throw away items that soak up a lot of water and can’t be cleaned and dried. * Opening all inside doors, cabinets, and removing drawers will allow hidden areas to dry. * If you didn’t lose power, then fans, dehumidifiers, and heaters will help to speed up the drying process. To access more resources on how to effectively and safely clean up after a flood, visit: https://lnkd.in/eZSHsqtd Residents looking to clean up their storm-damaged property are encouraged to call a professional that is experienced in handling such safety concerns. Our forensic professionals are prepared to determine the source of damage, while our environmental team can provide testing, consultation, and estimating services for mold, asbestos, lead, and fuel oil claims related to storm damage. Our additional experience includes structure collapses, retaining wall damage, tree and vehicle impacts to structures, as well as estimating damage costs and rebuild estimates, which assists with restoring properties and eases the insurance carrier’s ability to settle all types of claims. We understand that timing is critical during hurricane recovery and are ready to deliver the support you need. • Having recently graduated from H2M’s Mentorship program for the third time, Joyce Cuggino, Executive Assistant to the CEO, recalls her experience as a mentor and mentee to be truly fulfilling. “I was a mentee when I first signed up for this program in 2020. My mentor at the time, Steve Hearl, helped me learn so much about myself and the way different people think. When I was asked to return to the program as a mentor, I was excited to offer the same opportunity to others. I thought it was also a chance for me to forge new relationships.” Joyce described the role that the in-house program plays in improving employee well-being. “Creating lasting relationships in the workplace can be tricky, but this program really bridges that gap for everyone. When you get to know someone at a personal level, you create a stronger bond, a better relationship, and a happier workplace overall.” She concluded by sharing how all information, even when it is not necessarily technical, is still of value to staff. “It’s not only about the technical knowledge you have when it comes to mentoring; it’s your willingness to spend time connecting with individuals and your openness to learn from them in return. H2M is such a diverse company with infinite potential for us to gain from one another, so I'm glad I connected with Chris on this journey.” Staff such as Joyce are integral members of our organization. Her willingness to expand her knowledge of others and pass along vital lessons underlines her commitment to improvement. Following her recent graduation, she remains eager to continue forming new relationships while uplifting others in the process. #Growthmindset #mentor #Mentee #H2Mmentorship

  • To close out Mold Awareness Month, we are spotlighting Ashley Little, P.M.P., Senior Project Scientist and Manager of Mold & Industrial Hygiene Inspection Services! As a leader of a dedicated mold inspection team, Ashley emphasizes the importance of attention to detail throughout every task. “No two properties are the same, so it’s important for my team and I to determine the root cause of the issue and help, which often requires a keen eye,” she shares. “We deal with an array of clients, from insurance adjusters helping return their insured’s property to pre-loss conditions to facility and property managers maintaining healthy building environments. As such, we understand the value of being thorough.” Not only does she test for environmental hazards, she also works to identify why the hazard developed in the first place and recommends the proper ways to remediate damage. Ashley’s expertise further extends to project management, asbestos and indoor air quality sampling, and crafting detailed remediation reports that serve the insurance, real estate, municipal, education, and public safety market sectors. Ashley is deeply committed to community support outside of her technical role. As co-chair of H2M’s Women’s Leadership Employee Resource Group, she spearheads charitable initiatives for the surrounding community and organizes professional development opportunities for staff. Recently recognized with H2M’s 2023 President’s Award, she is undoubtedly focused on providing essential services that uplift our community and protect public health. • September is Deaf Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing public awareness of people who are deaf or hard of hearing, their culture, and the issues they face. According to the New York City Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, more than 175,000 people living in New York City are deaf or hard of hearing. More than 70% of parents with hearing do not sign to their children who are deaf. The New York School for the Deaf (NYSD), located in White Plains, NY, is the second oldest school for the deaf in the United States. They help their students develop spoken language and auditory skills and collaborate with their community to present deafness from a cultural and linguistic perspective, rather than as a disability. The NYSD retained H2M architects + engineers in January 2023 to inspect seven buildings across its stunning forested campus and develop a facilities needs assessment and probable cost opinions for the recommended work. From there, the scope of work evolved into developing a five-year master plan for maintaining and upgrading their buildings while preserving their historic design. H2M recently aided with permitting and construction administration for window replacements in four buildings and will shortly break ground on a track and field renovation project. This relationship is a reminder of the importance of working with different communication styles. Every client has unique needs and preferences. H2M understands how critical it is to be adaptable in every client interaction throughout the construction process, from planning to close-out. Communication is key when planning for long-term success!
