This #WorldMentalHealthDay, let's spotlight the mental health crisis impacting frontline healthcare workers: ❤️🩹 The CDC reports that challenging work conditions put over 20 million U.S. health workers at risk for mental health issues. ❤️🩹 Long hours, staffing shortages, and exposure to violence and harassment leave healthcare workers vulnerable to stress, burnout, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. ❤️🩹 Nearly half of health workers (46%) reported often feeling burned out in 2022, up from 32% in 2018. ❤️🩹 Nearly half of health workers (44%) intended to look for a new job in 2022, up from 33% in 2018. Research has shown that the top reasons for leaving included insufficient staffing, the intensity of the workload, and the job's emotional toll. As #labormanagement partners, let's continue to turn our focus to supporting healthcare workers with quality jobs and the mental health resources and support they need to thrive and provide quality care. 💜

Today is Latina Equal Pay Day. 💵 As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month this October, it's essential to highlight the gendered pay disparities that Latina women experience in this country. Because of the gender pay gap, Latinas were compensated just 58% of what non-Hispanic white men were paid in 2023. That means it takes Latina workers almost an entire extra year of full-time, year-round work to be paid the average annual earnings of white men. Occupational segregation helps us understand some of the pay gap, and the healthcare sector is no exception--for example, Latina workers are overrepresented in low-paid healthcare support occupations. At the current rate of change, Latinas won't reach equal pay until the year 2197! Labor and management organizations can band together to intervene and work towards #equalpay. Tomorrow, Saturday, September 21st, is World Alzheimer's Day. 🌎 🧠 Each year, this day marks a global effort to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer's disease and other dementia. Over 55 million people across the world are affected. Our thoughts are with impacted patients and their loved ones today 💜💜💜 We also want to recognize the workforce of dedicated caregivers who support patients with Alzheimer's and dementia each day. These caregivers, many of whom work in private homes, nursing facilities, and the community, are essential workers who provide invaluable services with incredible emotional intelligence. Thank you, caregivers!
