    Today marks another milestone for my company, Guided Arrows! I am celebrating 5️⃣ incredible years in business! 🥳 It has been a journey filled with unexpected challenges, some of which appeared MUCH sooner than I anticipated, (um, trying to ramp up a new business in 2020 was SUPER fun...🙄) Despite the many challenges, pivots, problems to solve, choosing which doors to open and close, and even falling on my face a few times- I don't regret taking the leap and betting on myself! To my incredible clients- without your trust and support over the years this milestone would NOT be possible. Together, we have created amazing workplaces that are driven by a people-first mindset and higher purpose which is why I started this company to begin with.     Did you know 23% of startups fail because they don't have the right team members on board? 🤯 Founders often put off creating a strategy for the people side of their business. It’s only when they are drowning in chaos that they realize what a huge MISTAKE it was to ignore this critical pillar of the business. 😫 Making good HIRING decisions from the start is one of the biggest struggles founders face and it’s one of the questions I get asked most often- “how do I hire the right person/people?” 💡With the average number of employees for a startup company being only 4, the stakes are certainly high for making a good decision! To put the right people in the right seats on the proverbial bus 🚌(thanks Jim Collins!) it all starts with being intentional and having a solid plan. 📝 Don't just wing it! 👉 Here are 5 things I recommend to help you get started: 1️⃣ Get clear about your mission, vision, values (and behaviors!) that will drive your culture. Build these aspects into your hiring process to find alignment. 2️⃣ Articulate and share your story in the job ad to attract candidates that have a shared vision and higher purpose rather than a list of 40 bullet points of tasks and responsibilities 3️⃣ Create an org chart so you know what roles are critical to the business (now and in the future) and the purpose they serve (and the value of ROI they bring) 4️⃣ Develop job descriptions for every role so that 1. you aren't duplicating work and 2. everyone knows what outcomes of the work should be (i.e. what does a good job look like?) 5️⃣ Use behavioral based interview questions. This is proven to be a more effective method for understanding how people think, like to work, and what instrinsically motivates them. The moral of the story is this. ❇️ Don't just hire warm bodies and think it will just work out!❇️ If you take the time to create a meaningful hiring strategy from the start, you'll spend less time (and money!) re-filling the seat over and over. 💁♀️ #hiring #scaling #HRstrategy #HRtips #founders #startups

    Pay transparency laws are expanding yet again with Maryland and Minnesota joining the growing list of states that will require #employers to post a pay range, summary of benefits, and any other compensation elements with their job ads, effective Oct 1, 2024 (yes, now!) and Jan 1, 2025, respectively. 🗓️ This law reinforces that people applying for jobs have a right to know the expected salary range or rate of pay for the position. Imagine that! 💡 I honestly dont understand why this isn’t just a given and we have to make a law to treat people with respect, but who am I? 🤷♀️ There are some extra details that apply such as company size but if your state is not on the list (YET), I would start preparing a strategy to address your #recruiting process because I think it’s only a matter of time. 🙋🏻♀️Do you think this is a good law to have to protect #candidates and promote transparency? 🔗I will drop a link in the comments if you want to learn more about which states are currently subject to this law and the details on how to comply. #pay #hrtip #hrstrategy #employernews #compliance #legalupdate

    Whoa!! What a week! 🤯 I had an absolute blast at Reno Startup Week last week and am just now getting to digest everything. I met so many incredible new people from our local #community (and beyond!) and had great discussions with founders about people and culture. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to be on the RSW marketing & volunteer committees plus be chosen as a guest #speaker at 2 events!
