Really proud of this one, and our pals at SteadyCloud.io. This project began with a brand matrix workshop to lock in language, articulate positioning and differentiate the value prop. The results of that work translated directly to the visual identity, copy, and even the interactions you see throughout. It's a thrill. This was a fun one. And, we think, a good-looking one, too. Congrats to our friends SteadyCloud.io!

Our very own CEO, Megan Lally, made her podcast guest-hosting debut, stepping in for Christy Hiler, to talk with Caroline May from Grown Creative. They cover everything from the rewards and challenges of starting a business, to what it takes to run an agency today, to sharing an office with a possum! On this week's episode of Own It, we have a great guest, but also a great guest host. Megan Lally from Highdive in Chicago sits in today and interviews Caroline May from Grown Creative in St. Louis. Her firm likes to think of advertising as a way to sneak art into the world. They focus on marrying ideas and stories to connect with people. They talked about Caroline’s journey to ownership which included being a journalist, a public relations pro and a creative director, among other roles. Megan and Caroline also discussed being mothers as agency owners and, of course, the challenge of closing the gender gap in ownership in our industry. We really enjoyed hearing Megan’s conversation with Caroline. We know you will too. https://lnkd.in/ewJN6MTu #advertising #ownership #entrepreneurship #feminism #adagency

One of many things I got to chat with Megan Lally about recently on our episode of Own It is how much agencies benefit from a different approach to coaching junior creatives. We've all been in rooms with the prototypical (male) CD who demands that you defend a good idea in order to prove its worth. And if you're working with naturally outspoken, extroverted, or extra-confident creatives, this approach can produce great results. But if you're working with creatives who are more reserved, or belong to a group that's historically been discouraged from pushing back or seeming combative, or to a group so rarely included in agency creative spaces that they understandably operate with more caution, well . . . not so much. That's why I think a much better approach is to publicly praise a good idea when you see one — and its creator. Call out what you, the Creative Director, like about it. Break down why YOU think it's effective. Arm your juniors with the talking points you want the client to hear, when they *actually* have to defend their idea. (Of course they're presenting and defending their own ideas.) Because if we actually want to encourage and reward creative risk, we first have to make people feel safe. Hear our whole conversation here, or wherever your find your podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gweiCkVT #agencylife #advertising

We're biased, but this week's episode is one of our favorites. Listen to learn why we're called Grown, how we came to exist, and what makes it owning it *so* worth it.

We’re starting a semi-regular meetup for the St. Louis creative community very creatively titled “Cooler Together.” Our first gathering is scheduled for June 18 at Tower Grove Park to coincide with the Tuesday night Farmer’s Market. If you work in the creative industry, come find us at the Turkish Pavilion and let’s toss back a few beverages and possibly a frisbee.

We're celebrating Small Business Day with a peek at our creative process. #smolbusiness In seriousness, though, we believe that being small is a strength. When you hire Grown, you hire three senior-level agency vets, all of whom are directly involved and invested in your work. The pitch team is also the project team (is also the cleaning crew, IT department and culture committee.) There are no games of telephone, no flagpoles to run up, and no "anchor clients." We can afford to be affordable, and staying small lets us keep our priorities straight: doing good work for people who do good work. 🤝

Put a smattering of these beauts in the mail last week for friends, prospects, and (dare we say it?) fans. If you'd like your own velvety foil-gilded copy of our services book, shoot us your address at [email protected]. It comes with a fun little glossary of plants that are particularly hard to kill, for no particular reason at all. And a sticker!
