The first of our 2024 SMART-HARVEST grant projects is in #Zimbabwe where over 70% of women and children face the silent but devastating effects of iron deficiency, hindering brain development and well-being. But together, we’re turning the tide. With support from Grow Further, local researchers are on a mission to change lives by developing and distributing iron-rich, #drought-tolerant, and high-yielding pearl millet varieties. This #breakthrough means healthier families, stronger minds, and hope for a better tomorrow. New innovations will be required to help smallholder farmers stay one step ahead of global warming. More than 50 years ago, agricultural scientists, governments, and philanthropic foundations mobilized to establish a special research center devoted to helping the world grow more food in arid climates.
