About us
Groundwork USA is a national network of people-centered environmental justice organizations working hand-in-hand with residents to undo the legacy of environmental injustice and ensure that everyone can live in a community that is healthy, green, just, and resilient. As a leader in the national environmental justice movement, we seek to change places, change lives, and change systems by building the capacity of communities to lead the transformation of underutilized and vacant land and waterways into community assets that improve community health, well-being, and resilience. Did you know that in the U.S., we throw away around 80 million pounds of food waste every year? Groundwork Rhode Island is working to change this with their Harvest Cycle Initiative, where they make composting easy and accessible through electric bike pickups, public drop-off bins, and educational programs. Thanks to their efforts, over 200,000 pounds of food waste are converted into high-quality compost annually! A key highlight of this initiative is the West End Compost Hub. This new hub will revitalize an underused area, transforming it into a community space that processes even more local food waste. Supported by Groundwork USA’s Land Use Innovation Initiative, the hub will be developed with local input and feature local art, educational resources, and tours. Trail maintenance, campground upgrades, daily educational sessions, and community building—Groundwork youth are doing it all this summer in Grand Tetons National Park! At Groundwork USA, we proudly partner with the National Park Service to create hands-on learning experiences for our Green Team and GroundCorps members. Each year, we organize at least four immersive, nine-day trips to locations like Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Gateway National Recreation Area. During these trips, youth participate in conservation projects, learn about the history and culture of the sites, explore land management practices, and discover potential career paths in the field. Discover more about our national youth initiatives in the 2023 Public Lands Partnerships Report! 👇 https://lnkd.in/dQbDcG7t #YouthPrograms #YouthForChange #YouthLeadership
