The element of play is important throughout our development as children. The free, spontaneous and joyous nature helps to physically and cognitively find a sense of ourselves. As adults though, moments of playfulness in our movement become limited, if at all. Our exercise is often repetitive, mundane and uninspiring. This can create a disconnect with our joyous, spontaneous inner child. If your body is feeling rigid, disconnected and older than it should, spark your playfulness with some dancing. The lower back isn't overly fond of prolonged sitting. The increased pressure from flexed hips and spine coupled with the stagnation of fluid from lack of movement can contribute to pain in the area. Muscles become tight and joints develop stiffness. Those tissues are nourished by movement so the lack of it has them yearning for engagement. They aren't overly picky, you don't need to do some fancy core exercise or deadlift your body weight, you just need to move regularly throughout the day and with some consistency. 📷 @dudihasson1

Society is sedentary. Sitting is often. Movement is needed. Consistency is key. It's near impossible to get away from prolonged sedentary moments on a day to day basis. These moments need to be counteracted with a regular movement practice. Giving the body a daily dose of nourishing movement between these sedentary moments will bring about the balance we should be aiming for with our health. Occasional movement practice is better than nothing, but like all aspects of health, regular and consistent is key to feeling good for longer periods. #dance #movement #movementismedicine #osteopathy #wellness #workplacewellbeing #sedentarysociety #sedentaryworkplace

Tight hips from all those hours at the desk? A very common presentation for desk workers due to keeping the hips in a flexed and stagnant position for prolonged periods. While we can use stand up desks or going for a walk to loosen up, the hips are really screaming out for some diversity in movement. The monotony of walking, running or riding doesn't engage the hip with the variety of movement it needs. Dance is a powerful modality that will move the hip in the multitude of ways it desires.
