Another amazing summer has come to a close! Our campers had a blast with classic activities from swim and sports to crafts and outdoor adventure, plus out-of-this-world theme weeks like Sci-Fi, Wild West, and Time Travel. A huge thank you to our fantastic counselors and staff, and to the families who make our camp community so beloved. We know the memories and friendships of this season will carry on for all of our campers, and we can’t wait to see you all next summer!

Last week, we welcomed 8 camels and their handlers for Class-Act Camels, a 3-day workshop for camelid enthusiasts to train in best practices for leading camel-assisted activities with humans. Guided by visiting experts and the Green Chimneys Equine Team, attendees heard presentations about creating animal-assisted programs, camel behavior and veterinary topics, and practiced important handling techniques, such as leading camels through an obstacle course. Green Chimneys Equine Program Manager Sam Arevalo observes our students connecting with animals daily – including our own camel Phoenix – and took great pride in sharing her expertise to teach others how to bring that back to their homes so they can spread the positivity among the camel world. Thank you to all those who participated!

Today marks the birthday of Green Chimneys Co-Founder Myra Mattes Ross. We’re so grateful for her nearly 65 years of dedication as an educator and through her work as Clinical Coordinator and Director of Admissions. Myra was the heart of Green Chimneys and forever focused on how we could best serve students’ learning and social-emotional growth. We celebrate her legacy of commitment to children, animals, and education. Thank you, Myra, and happy birthday!
