    “Il n’y a pas de raison qu’un SSP ait le droit d’apprendre sur l’inventaire d’un éditeur lorsqu’il ne participe pas aux enchères” Ce sont Allan Jocalaz et Jean-Baptiste Pettit qui m'ont tenu ces propos à l'occasion d'un premier bilan sur la mise en place du bid throttling chez Prisma Media. La pratique consiste à filtrer les ad requests envoyés aux partenaires programmatique. P artant du constat qu’une requête publicitaire (ad request) envoyée en open auction à l’ensemble de ses partenaires programmatiques génère rarement plus de 25% de taux de réponse (bid response). Cela fait maintenant un an que Prisma Media s'est lancé la dedans. L'ensemble des sites du groupe le font désormais, avec des taux de filtrage qui vont de 25 à 50% selon les sites. Les bénéfices sont nombreux : - une meilleure UX : Qui dit moins de partenaires appelés, dit un temps de chargement amélioré. Précieux quand on sait que les éditeurs en sont à grappiller des millisecondes pour améliorer l’expérience utilisateur et le SEO de le page. - plus de facilités pour tester Facile de tester un nouveaux partenaire quand on sait qu'il ne sera sollicité que quand c’est utile via l'algo de filtrage. Pratique pour les sites qui ont des audiences dans des marchés secondaires (un éditeur UK en Australie) ou sur des environnements très spécifiques (in-app). - un poids carbone moindre Greenbids filtre plus de 17,7 milliards d’ad calls par mois, rien que pour Prisma Media. "On enlève plus de carbone que la consommation annuelle des employés du groupe", me dit Jean-Baptiste. C'est la magie d'agir sur le fameux Scope 3. - des revenus pubs boostés : Cela parait contre-intuitif, c'est vrai. Et cela s'explique par le fait qu'en réduisant le volume de requêtes que vous envoyez à un SSP, vous réduisez également ses charges, les frais d’écoutes étant un gros poste de dépense, et que, ce faisant, vous lui permettez de bidder plus, tout en respectant son niveau plancher de marge… Jean-Baptiste m'alerte sur une autre dimension sur ce sujet. Le fait qu’un SSP, lorsqu’il “écoute” toutes les enchères, peut se permettre d’enchérir avec un niveau de marge très élevé et donc avec une offre moins intéressante pour l’éditeur, parce qu’il sait que sa publicité apparaîtra tôt ou tard. C’est ce qu’on appelle la stratégie du “bottom feeder”, le fait de se contenter des restes. Sauf que lorsqu’on arrête de vous interroger sur 40 à 50% des enchères habituelles, vous pouvez moins vous permettre ce genre de stratégie.     Measurement is pointless if it just ends up as a number on a spreadsheet somewhere. A very small part of the (very large) Ad industry has spent the last few years working out how to accurately measure carbon. A few have started to correlate that with other quality metrics. However, very few have started to take action...but now is the time.
