🎬 The green filmmaking good news of the day comes from our native Romania, where work is underway on the first environmental sitcom ever made, as its producers call it - Ten To Midnight. Sustainability in film is more than green production measures, it'a also incorporating a message of sustainability into your story, and Ten To Midnight plans to do just that, by tackling environmental themes, with a comedic take. This can help audiences learn and be entertained at the same time, and maybe include green initiatives in their day-to-day lives as well. Congratulations and success to the creative and production team!

The 🌲First Environmental Sitcom🌲 ever made ... After five years of hearing many dismissive nos from both sides of the film industry (commercial and documentary) and a few excited yes, this unusual film baby 👶 🎞 finally takes his first steps into the spotlight, hoping to prove once and for all that IMPACT can be done through COMEDY. A big thank you goes to the ❤️ Hollywood Climate Summit ❤️ team who supported the journey and I hope will continue to support the project in its journey to come and Lisa Burke at RTL who was kind enough to invite me on her show when I was just a struggling screenwriter with a dream, L'essentiel , EWA - European Women's Audiovisual Network, Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), Roadmap Writers and many others... Thank you, all! ❤️ #climatechange #impactfilm #environment #series

Sometimes, when we say "our research shows...", what we actually mean is "we saw this on a film set". 🤓 That's because before advising productions on sustainability, we spent years on the teams of international films and commercials. We mix our hands-on experience in day-to-day film production activities with our sustainability knowledge to offer solutions that help filmmakers, not limit them. It's important to work on your green filming plan with someone who knows the ins and outs of production and who can help the creative process while also reducing the environmental impact. 🎥 🌳 *This is us in 2019, on set in Thailand, on a film where we learned quite a bit about green production. #greenonset #filmsustainability #greenfilmmaking #filmproduction

A full month lost in 20 years (in 2004, #EarthOvershootDay was September 2nd). Climate action needs to be immediate, continuous, and across all levels.

🌐Today is the #EarthOvershootDay — the day we’ve exhausted all the natural resources our planet can generate for 2024. Compared to last year, this year's overshoot happened one day earlier. The circular economy implemented globally can #MoveTheDate in the opposite direction. We use the #PlanetaryBoundaries framework to demonstrate how the circular economy can reverse the overshoot of our planet's safe limits. Let’s take climate change, for example. We can bring this down from a massive 191% above the boundary to 46% above the boundary. It will be enough to limit temperature rise to 2-degrees and prevent some of the most dangerous impacts of climate breakdown. Even more positively, the ocean acidification, phosphorus cycle, nitrogen cycle, and land-system change boundaries can all be brought back within safe limits. 🌿 Tip #12: Get Decision Makers and Talent Involved 🌿 We're well into #PlasticFreeJuly, and today we're talking about the power of example at the top. If you want to inspire crews to use less plastic and choose alternatives, start with the people making the big decisions - producers, directors, heads of departments, these key players have the authority to set sustainability standards. By advocating for eco-friendly practices, they can influence every department. Also, have your main cast lead by example - your actors can be seen with reusable items, can have talks to inspire crews, and can even spread the word online. One example is the "Lights, Camera, Plastic?" campaign by American non-profit Habits Of Waste, who got writers, producers and actors on board to spread the message about less plastic use on set and on screen. Reducing plastic use on film sets is not just an environmental responsibility; it's an opportunity to lead the industry towards a greener future. By getting decision-makers involved, we can create lasting change and inspire others to follow suit. 🎬🌱 #sustainability #GreenOnSet #noplastic #filmsustainability #FilmProduction #EcoFriendly #PlasticFree #GreenFilmmaking

🌿 Tip #11: Applying the Begley-Cohen Test 📄 On today's #PlasticFreeJuly tip, we’re not talking about less plastic on set, but rather on screen. 📺 And for this, we have the Begley-Cohen Test. Inspired by and modeled after the Bechdel-Wallace Test, which is used to measure female representation in media, the Begley-Cohen Test is designed to help audiences quickly assess how much single-use plastic appear within the content they watch and how it's portrayed. To pass the the Begley-Cohen Test, a film or TV production needs to meet the following two conditions: 1. No single-use plastics appear on screen (either the story is set in a time where there was no plastic, like historical films and TV, or plastic products are replaced with refillable, reusable, or package-free options). 2. When single-use plastic items appear on screen, they are portrayed or discussed as problematic. By applying the test, filmmakers can check their scripts and eliminate all instances where single use plastics appear, and viewers can evaluate if a film is sustainable or not when it comes to single use plastics. #sustainability #GreenOnSet #nosigneuseplastics #thebegleycohentest #filmsetsustainability

Just another short reminder about why we should say no to plastics and why we should do it immediately. By 2050, the oceans could contain more plastic than fish by weight. Let's continue the work and find solutions to reduce plastic use, not only on our film sets but also at home. #Sustainability #PlasticFreeJuly #GreenOnSet #EcoFriendly #FilmSetSustainability

Do you see it? 👀 By 2050 the oceans could contain more plastic than fish by weight. We want to avoid this. That’s why if sustainable alternatives are easily available and affordable, single-use plastic products cannot be placed on the EU market. To reduce the use of plastics, the EU also introduced: ♻️ Design requirements, such as attached caps to bottles ♻️ Labelling requirements, to inform consumers about the plastic content of products ♻️ Waste management and clean-up obligations for producers Learn more about our work to #BeatPlasticPollution 👉 https://europa.eu/!QRkw8Y

🌿 Tip #10: Sustainable Office Supplies! 📋🌱 This #PlasticFreeJuly, we’re focusing on reducing plastic use in our production offices. Choose Plastic-Free Stationery: Opt for pens, pencils, and notebooks made from recycled or biodegradable materials. Avoid plastic binders and folders, and choose cardboard or other sustainable options. Also, maximize the use of digital tools to reduce reliance on physical office supplies. Encourage team members to use electronic notes and documents. Let’s reduce plastic waste and create a greener workspace. 🌏 #Sustainability #GreenOnSet #PlasticFreeOffice #EcoFriendly #FilmSetSustainability

🌿 Tip #9: Eco-Friendly Makeup and Hair Practices! 💄🌱 This #PlasticFreeJuly, let’s focus on reducing plastic waste in our makeup and hair departments. Opt for makeup and hair products that come in recyclable or biodegradable packaging. Look for brands that prioritise sustainability and offer refills. Use reusable makeup applicators, such as washable sponges and brushes, instead of disposable ones. For hair, use biodegradable or wooden combs and brushes. Buy products in bulk to reduce the amount of plastic packaging waste and decant into reusable containers. By adopting these practices, we can reduce our plastic footprint while still looking fabulous on set. 🌏 #Sustainability #GreenOnSet #PlasticFreeMakeup #EcoFriendly #FilmSetSustainability

🌿 Tip #8: Sustainable Wardrobe Practices! 👗🌱 This #PlasticFreeJuly, we are focusing on reducing plastic on film sets, including in our wardrobe choices. Choose Natural Fibers: Use clothing made from natural fibers like cotton, linen, and hemp, which are biodegradable and free from synthetic plastics. Avoid synthetic materials such as polyester and nylon, which contribute to microplastic pollution. Embrace Reuse: Implement a clothing swap or rental system to reduce the need for new purchases, or resell them after the end of the shooting. This not only cuts down on waste but also promotes a culture of reuse and sustainability on set. Let's make a small change that has a BIG impact on our sets and our planet. 🌏 #Sustainability #GreenOnSet #PlasticFreeWardrobe #EcoFriendly #FilmSetSustainability
