As we wrap up #ManufacturingMonth, our commitment to building strong career pathways in manufacturing remains steadfast! This week, we hosted a Women in Manufacturing panel, encouraging women in the San Antonio area to explore rewarding opportunities in this dynamic and expanding industry. Women make up 29% of the manufacturing workforce in our region, a number we’re proud to say is above the national average of 20%. But we know there’s more work to be done! Special thanks to our inspiring panelists: Mona Tawil Helmy, CEO, Helmy Plastics Brandi Prisco, Manufacturing Plant Lead, H-E-B Carla Wright, VP of Manufacturing, Toyota North America (Toyota TX) Romanita Matta Barrera, Chief Business Advancement Officer, greater:SATX "Toyota recognizes that the best innovation happens when more people are at the table,” said Carla Wright, VP of Manufacturing for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas. “It is so important to have women in manufacturing because that's where the products we love and use begin. Having women assembling trucks and SUVs, in administration and in leadership only makes our vehicles better." Manufacturing in San Antonio is projected to grow by 15% over the next five years, and efforts to prepare the future workforce are already well underway. Through partnerships with local schools, we’re promoting career pathways for students. The students who joined our panel discussion were from CAST STEM, a CAST Schools campus focused on preparing young leaders for #STEM careers. CAST STEM collaborates closely with industry partners to equip students for future roles in engineering, technology, advanced manufacturing, and global logistics, paving the way for a skilled and dynamic workforce. Together, we’re shaping a more inclusive future in manufacturing, creating space for all to thrive and succeed.
