Day 3 of GVA’s Annual VAST Conference started with Michael Conrath, Managing Director and Chief Market Strategist at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Michael shared his expert take on guiding your clients to retirement. Next up, we heard from our new friends at Easterly Asset Management! Arnim H. Global Macro Strategist and Manager & Founder of the AB Correlation Deference Index – CDI, joined us to discuss drawdown management and diversification – specifically addressing how to make portfolios resilient. We closed the conference portion of the day with an audience participation-driven Think Tank on M&A led by Jeremy Holly EVP of LPL Financial Capital Partners, and our CEO James J. Spinelli, ChFC®.    After lunch, and some free time (that seemed to lead many of us to the vines), we all ventured to Inglenook! Day Two of the Annual VAST Conference included a morning full of insightful discussions and presentations. After a kickoff delivered by our CEO James J. Spinelli, ChFC® we moved right into a Fireside Chat focused on Thriving During Challenging Seasons of Growth. This Chat was led by moderator Cynthia C. Spigel, JD, CFP® and included participants Alex Weiss, CFP® of Napier Financial, Mike Laatsch of Innovative Planning Group, and John Jonas and Paul Tourville of Next Level Planning & Wealth Management. An insightful Market Outlook featuring Michael Arone, Chief Investment Strategist at State Street Global Advisors and our own Chief Market Strategist Eric Parnell, CFA discussed the current state of the markets. And we closed out our Monday presentations with Sam Ushio, Founder of Ikigai Lab (sponsored by Victory Capital). Sam led us in a fascinating exercise on Igniting Innovation with Intentionality – providing tips not only for financial purpose, but also for improving our personal lives as well.  After lunch the group split down the middle – our golfers going left, and our wine tasters going right. No matter which group you fell in, all thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful Napa weather! We all meet later for a delicious dinner overlooking Silverado’s award-winning golf course. We’ve got a big election coming up in the United States that’s now less than two weeks away. While a presidential election is always a big deal, some are proclaiming that the 2024 election is “the most important in history”. Given that the winners of the election that includes control not only of the White House but also the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives play an important role in directing fiscal policy, many investors are fixated on what the potential impact on financial markets may be. But if long-term history is any guide, investment markets simply do not care who wins the election.
