About us
Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) invests a portion of Colorado Lottery proceeds to help preserve and enhance the state’s parks, trails, wildlife, rivers, and open spaces. GOCO’s independent board awards competitive grants to local governments and land trusts and makes investments through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Created when voters approved a constitutional amendment in 1992, GOCO has since funded more than 5,700 projects in all 64 counties of Colorado without any tax dollar support. All. The. Feels. 💗 Great work, Town of Erie! And, as always, lots of gratitude to the Colorado Lottery for the proceeds that make it all possible.
Last night, the Town of Erie received a 2024 Starburst Award from the Colorado Lottery for the Coal Creek Park Redevelopment project. This award highlights the impactful use of Lottery funds to enhance Colorado’s outdoor spaces. Coal Creek Park is amazing space that will serve the community and visitors for years to come. This project was a result of A LOT work from A LOT of people. We couldn’t have done without support from our residents, elected Town officials, Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and Colorado Lottery. Personally, I could not have successfully managed this project without the unwavering support, invaluable mentorship, and encouragement from Patrick Hammer. He provided me with the opportunity, guidance, and confidence needed to lead the project from drawings to the recognition we received with last night’s award. This achievement reflects the power of collaboration and shared vision in creating lasting, positive impacts for our community! We can’t wait for the next one! #parksandrecreation #connectingyoutofun

A peek at paddle boarding during a full moon. Isn't Colorado grand? 😍 GOCOers joined Generation Wild community The Nature Connection in Delta this weekend for some truly special outdoor recreation! Getting out on the water is always sweet, but doing it during a full moon is next level. Thanks so much to our partners for your work getting kids and families outside in the most incredible ways. 👏 📸 : Ross Bernards (And yes, Ross was out on a float himself when he took these photos! We love it.)

There's no doubt about it...trail work is hard work! We're so lucky to have partners like the Grand Valley Stewardship Crew who apply their skills and passion to critical efforts like these. This July, a four-person crew worked for six weeks on the Little Creek Trail in the Uncompahgre National Forest near Grand Junction, supporting drainage, controlling erosion, and clearing corridors. After that, they headed to Grand Mesa National Forest to tackle another project on the Kannah Creek Trail. All to protect the landscapes and trails we know and love. Thank you, GVSC and their partners like Colorado West Land Trust, Rivers Edge West Consulting, and more. You're incredible! 👏 📸: Ross Bernards

Recreation for the community, by the community! 🌳💞 28 miles of the High Line Canal stretching from Bible Park in Denver to the Gaylord Convention Center in Aurora is getting a facelift, thanks to years of input from local community members. A $7 million GOCO Centennial Program grant awarded in March will help the High Line Canal Conservancy and partners re-vamp the trail, address safety concerns, and increase access and activation by the metro community, including the over 228,000 residents who live within a mile. Get excited -- around 90% of these improvements are expected within a year. 😱 📸 1-3 courtesy of HLCC; 4 by Fa'al Ali, courtesy of Colorado Youth Corps Association

27,000+ acres in southeast Colorado protected forever. 💚💚💚 All thanks to the Hall family, Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy in Colorado, and proceeds from the Colorado Lottery. How lucky are we to be able to direct these funds towards impactful projects like this?! Great work, team.
Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust used its Land Acquisition grant From GOCO to partner with The Nature Conservancy and a private ranching family to permanently protect the 27,340-acre Delhi Ranch with a conservation easement. The ranch spans Las Animas, Otero, and Pueblo counties and consists of native shortgrass prairie that supports nearly twice as many animal species of concern than other land-based ecosystems in Colorado.

We hope you've run into this year's unBEElievable Generation Wild campaign to 'Save the Bees' and get families outside. 😉🐝
Can bad bee puns help save the bumblebees AND get kids outdoors? We’re going to find out. We teamed up with Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), Colorado State University Seed Lab, Little Free Library and more to create Wilderflowers. Over 100,000 free packages of wildflower seeds have already been distributed across the state. Applewood Seed Co. #newwork #advertising #packaging #OOH #savethebees

Colorado, get ready for your close up! 📸💁♀️ For GOCO’s communications team, summer is photoshoot season. And we had a blast with photographer Dustin Doskocil capturing the gorgeous Eagle Valley Trail. Back in March, we announced a big Centennial Program investment of $7 million to help Eagle County complete the last 7.5 miles of the 63-mile trail. Once complete, the EVT will connect over 140 miles of additional trail systems. That means—if you're feeling particularly epic—you'll be able to hike, run, or ride from Breckenridge to Aspen without using a highway. 😮 Special thanks to our friends at Eagle County Government for hosting us and for dreaming up this incredible project that will connect so many to our great outdoors! Photos coming soon...
