  • RAE | Recognizing Ancillary Excellence This week, Grand Strand Health celebrated our first-ever RAE Week to recognize the invaluable contributions our ancillary colleagues provide to our health system. Who are ancillary team members in the healthcare setting? Ancillary colleagues are those who support, compliment and elevate our primary healthcare providers - departments like Accounting, HR, Physical Therapy, Central Sterile, Lab, Respiratory Therapy and Environmental Services just to name a few. It takes a village of all disciplines to make an organization run, especially a hospital! From physicians and nurses to imaging and scrub techs, we are one team focused on the care and improvement of human life. To our ancillary teams, thank you for all you do! And to our clinical staff, thank you for partnering with them, and elevating them. Together we are Grand Strand Health Family.

  • Join us in congratulating Julie, a registered nurse who works in our 3 East Unit, for receiving the DAISY Award! Julie received five nominations from her patients. Here’s what they shared about her exceptional care: “I have cancer. Julie provided very professional care for me while I was in the hospital. She was attentive and responsive to my needs as I was very much in pain during my stay. I greatly appreciate her attentiveness.” “Julie was such a ray of sunshine when I got to my room. She went out of her way to get me something to eat. She was so pleasant to work with. She made me laugh and feel comfortable.” “Ownership, compassion and excellence - these values were continually demonstrated by Julie. Her timely coordination and follow up with my doctor insured she had the professional guidance she needed to care for me, her patient. While on duty, she moved from room to room caring for the needs of her patients.” The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses. • “This is a great hospital to come to if you need any type of assistance. It’s good to come back and see them and smile. To let them know that because of you, I’m here.” – Chris, Trauma Survivor Today, Chris, his wife and friends returned to Grand Strand Medical Center to celebrate his journey of recovery with a Victory Lap around the hospital. In June 2023, Chris was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle crash where he sustained multiple rib fractures, tibia/fibula fracture, right femur fracture, base skull fracture and hand fractures. Chris spent a total of 96 days in the hospital recovering from his injuries. He wasn’t expected to walk again for two years, but he is able to walk short distances just a little over a year with a cane. During the victory lap, Chris spent time reuniting with colleagues throughout the hospital who were part of his care team. He was also presented with our hospital's challenge coin which represents the strength and courage he exemplified during his journey to trauma survivorship and challenge himself to go out into the world to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Thank you to our media partners at WMBF News and WPDE ABC15 News for sharing Chris’ story with our community! 💙🧡
