Have YOU voted yet? Even as more New York voters are opting out of enrolling in a political party when registering to vote, those age 50 & up remain the most consistent & reliable voting bloc. Older voters are likely to play an outsized role once again in November’s elections... according to AARP New York's report "The Influence of Older Voters: New York Voter Participation Assessment" The report, prepared by Gotham Government Relations for AARP New York, found that voters 50-plus, regardless of party affiliation, are the most likely to show up at the polls, as they have in the last four election cycles – presidential, congressional, and gubernatorial. This is notable, considering that since 2016, there has been a steady rise in New York voters across all age groups who have chosen not to enroll in any party. In the June 2024 primary, for example, Gotham found that 50-plus voters represented 72% of the total turnout in New York, or 4 out of 5 voters. In the 2022 midterms, 62.5% of voters were age 50 or over. Read more in Harlem World Magazine about Gotham Polling & Analytics LLC report: https://lnkd.in/eMdFb2W3

"We can't assume party affiliation, so it depends on how the Harris and Trump campaigns address the issues concerning the new residents in these respective battleground states," Denny Salas, a Democratic strategist, told Newsweek. Looking at Gotham Polling & Analytics LLC recent poll (https://lnkd.in/enzeZRh8) and how it connects with the results of the statewide (by county) assessment we performed for AARPNY that will be released this week. We compared the registration vs actual voting numbers in various segments of the voting population. The chart below is for #NassauCounty. In 2022, when D'Esposito was elected, there was a dropoff in voting by Democrats and Independents under 50 years of age, while there was an uptick by Republicans. Also interesting is that registration numbers for younger Democrats are going down while the trend for younger voters to not select a party is going up. It is common for different patterns in turn out between Congressional and Presidential election years, especially in under-50 voters. However, the Gotham poll was more closely modeled off the 2020 results, which included a large number of younger Democratic women (the second largest demographic studied, with Democratic women over-50 being the largest), which should have given the Democratic challenger a more favorable outcome. The results of the NYCD4 race this year are likely to hinge on whether young Democratic women and independents turn out in in Nassau County at the rate they did in 2020 or whether they drop back to 2016 rates.
