🌟 #TestimonyTuesday: Stephanie’s Journey to Recovery and Hope 🌟 After losing her mother at the tender age of 12, Stephanie’s life took a series of heartbreaking turns. She moved in with her grandparents, only to lose her beloved grandmother shortly after. The passing of her aunts followed, leaving Stephanie overwhelmed with grief. To numb the pain, she turned to drugs, leading her down a dark path of addiction, homelessness, and domestic abuse. Without the proper guidance and tools to cope with her losses and addiction, Stephanie’s life spiraled out of control. It was during a hospital visit after a domestic assault that she had a moment of clarity: “Enough is enough. I don’t want to live my life like this any longer.” Stephanie moved to Tucson to reconnect with her family and start anew, but old habits resurfaced, and she lost everything. Determined to change, she sought help at Gospel Rescue Mission. Here, she found love, support, and guidance, completed The Recovery Program, and became a certified peer recovery specialist. Today, Stephanie works with others facing similar struggles, serving as a role model and positive example. She loves her work, helping those in need find hope and a path to recovery. Since December 8, 2023, Stephanie has been sober and has made incredible progress in a short time. Thanks to the support of donors and the community, we can continue to bring wholeness to people like Stephanie. "God is present. Wherever you are, he will go to the depths of hell to make sure that you know your worth... and your worth, and your value, and your purpose is enough for God to send his only begotten Son." In this inspiring episode of Homeless to Wholeness, Mateo shares the invaluable lessons he learned while in recovery and finding wholeness in his walk with Christ. Greatly influenced by his mother, Mateo fostered a profound bond with God and was active in his church as a youth and teen. However, as he grew older, he encountered challenges with substance abuse. Following the death of his grandparents, Mateo started down a difficult path of addiction and rebellion. Though Mateo found himself in dark places, incarcerated multiple times due to his substance abuse, God was always with him. He began this cycle of clinging to God's will for his life with great zeal and passion, but after a short time, he would return to old friends and habits and then relapse into rebellion. Yet, the birth of his son started to wake him up to the destructive cycle, and he began an honest examination of his life and how he had been living; however, it was only after a former youth pastor intervened that Matthew wholeheartedly surrendered to God's will for his life. In 2022, Mateo found himself engulfed in despair. His distressing social media posts caught the attention of his former youth pastor, who decided to take action. "Mateo, I am sick of seeing you waste your life! I'm arranging a bus ticket and a motel room for you, but on one condition—you must check into Gospel Rescue Mission the following morning, but if you don't..." And, thanks to the tough love from someone who truly cared, your continued support, and all the help he found, Mateo has been clean and sober since that day.
