On January 19th, Goodwill agencies around the world celebrate Founder's Day to honor Goodwill Founder Reverend Edgar J. Helms. Reverend Helms founded Goodwill Industries in 1902. He often said it was Goodwill's mission to save the waste in men as well as things and to give ANY who were willing to work, regardless of barrier or circumstance, "a chance, not charity." Edgar J. This is Randy— his story is one of resilience and support. When Randy needed help finding a job, he turned to Goodwill’s Workforce and Family Services Employment Program. Lacking computer skills and facing the stress of unemployment, he partnered with our staff to build his resume, apply for jobs online, and practice his interview skills. In less than a month, Randy secured a full-time job! Today, he enjoys the stability of meaningful work and financial independence. Reflecting on his journey, Randy shares, 'Without Goodwill, my life would be more uncertain.' This is why we do what we do—helping empower individuals to succeed. At just 3 years old, Murrell was stricken with polio, leaving his right leg paralyzed. But that didn't stop him from living his life. With the help of a custom brace provided by the State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Murrell took on life's challenges with strength and determination. Before joining Goodwill, Murrell “summered” cattle in Moscow mountains, worked at a mechanic in California, operated a service station in Idaho, and worked in the apple industry. In January 1955, Murrell began his journey with Goodwill as a repairman in the electrical appliance workshop. In 1958, he bought his own house, car, and was named Inland Empire Goodwill Worker of the Year! As we continue to celebrate 85 years of changing lives in the inland northwest, we honor his legacy today and are inspired by his unwavering spirit. #Inspiration #Goodwill #85years #Throwback #ThrowbackThursday

"Goodwill makes me happy." After struggling to find a job despite working with various agencies, Travis came to Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest for help. With help from Goodwill's Medicaid Supported Employment program, he began working at the Post Falls Goodwill in May 2024. Today, he loves his job, especially the chance to dance at work! Watch now:
