Stay ahead of Hurricane Milton with these 10 life-saving tips by FEMA: BEFORE THE STORM: 🏃♂️ Prepare for evacuation: test your communication plans, learn your evacuation route, find a safe place to stay and pack a "go bag". 🔦 Stock emergency supplies: gas, water, canned food, cash, flashlights and portable chargers are just a few essentials to help you through the storm. 🔒 Protect your property: bring furniture inside to avoid it becoming a projectile, install sewer backflow valves, anchor fuel tanks, review insurance policies and catalog belongings. DURING THE STORM: 👮 Follow local guidance: if you are instructed to evacuate, grab your "go bag" and leave immediately. 🌀 Stay away from windows: for protection from winds, seek shelter in the lowest level of an interior room. ☔ Move higher: if there is flooding, move to higher ground. NEVER walk or drive on flooded roads. AFTER THE STORM: ❌ Stay put: return home only when local officials say it is safe to do so. Do not enter damaged buildings until they have been inspected. 🌳 Watch out: Look out for downed or unstable trees, poles and powerlines. ⛑️Do not remove heavy debris by yourself: Wear gloves and sturdy shoes when removing debris.
