👋We are the Global Heat Reduction Initiative! As we approach Climate Week, we're excited to roll out our services for testing and feedback! Our goal: drive strategic climate action to accelerate global heat reduction in the urgent near-term, a crucial effort to complement existing long-term solutions. We use the most comprehensive, peer-reviewed climate accounting model available to measure *all* drivers of global warming and their impacts - not just CO2 and similar greenhouse gases, but also climate super pollutants, like methane, black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and nitrous oxide (N2O). That’s how we will help businesses and governments make the most informed and impactful climate mitigation investments. At scale, we can reduce global heat in years, not decades. Join us as we build out our heat reduction ecosystem. Together, we can slow global warming, faster. ➡ Learn more at our website: https://lnkd.in/gneMWGnU ➡ Read the press release: https://lnkd.in/gA77d9Ut #globalwarming #heatreduction #climateaction #climatechange #superpollutants
About us
The Global Heat Reduction Initiative (GHR) by SCS Global Services catalyzes efforts to drive down excess heat trapped in the atmosphere in the crucial near-term. We provide full climate accounting, including CO2 and climate super pollutants such as methane, N2O, black carbon, and tropospheric ozone. Through our climate registry, organizational footprinting and advisory services, GHR enables companies to make verified claims not only against their net-zero commitments but also to global heat reduction.

The World Economic Forum's latest whitepaper examines the benefits of black carbon mitigation, common barriers and implementation gaps, and potential next steps across Brazil, China, India, Nigeria, and the United States. Among many insights, the whitepaper addresses the need to fully value short-lived climate pollutants, including Black Carbon, across international climate frameworks. "The world has changed since the 100-year CO2-equivalent (CO2e) metric was established in 1996 for reporting purposes. The 100-year GWP metric was itself a political compromise, intended to enable emissions trading across a range of GHGs with fundamentally different properties. Many scientists have pointed out that it would be more logical and effective to compare apples to apples." Read the full whitepaper below, and check out how we plan to tackle black carbon and other climate super pollutants: https://lnkd.in/gNKgUmfy
What are the keys to unlocking black #carbon mitigation? This latest white paper, Mitigating Black Carbon: A Practical Guide to Action, examines the #trends, barriers and benefits of black carbon #mitigation in five key regions: Brazil, China, India, Nigeria, and the United States. From starting point to next steps, learn more about what’s needed to achieve greater levels of black carbon mitigation across the globe: https://ow.ly/WgOo50TLm05 #GFC24

Thank you Frontiers in Science for hosting the deep dive webinar on the Methane Imperative! #FrontiersForum Reducing methane and carbon dioxide are both critical and complementary, as seen in the graph below. During the webinar, Dr. Drew Shindell, a member of our Technical Advisory Panel and contributor to the Methane Imperative article, said "It's not one or the other - we need to do both, reduce methane and reduce CO2." Check out more from Dr. Shindell in our recent video series: https://lnkd.in/gDBnvjth #climateaction #superpollutants #globalwarming #climatesolutions
Over one-third of methane emissions could be reduced within agriculture, energy, and waste using cost-effective technologies that are already available. This would have an immediate positive effect on climate targets and public health. At today's #FrontiersForum Deep Dive, our expert panel of speakers outlined how abatement efforts need the backing of policy-makers as well as clearer tracking data in order to succeed. Thanks to our panel: Prof Drew Shindell of Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment, Tel Aviv University, and Climate & Clean Air Coalition. Tomás Bredariol of International Energy Agency (IEA) Dr Lena Höglund-Isaksson of International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) Prof Marcelo Mena of Global Methane Hub Prof Euan Nisbet from School of Life Sciences and the Environment, Royal Holloway, University of London Martina Otto of Climate & Clean Air Coalition and UN Environment Programme Read the Frontiers in Science article for more on methane imperatives: fro.ntiers.in/Ac6K Event video coming soon!

Recently our Executive Director Kiff Gallagher visited Dr. Drew Shindell, a member of our Technical Advisory Panel, at Duke University. In this video series, Dr. Shindell shares his expertise and insights on short-lived climate super pollutants, how to slow global warming, and more. "The consequences of climate change are here, and the way to provide benefits during the next 25 years is targeting the super pollutants." Dr. Shindell is the Nicholas Professor of Earth Sciences at Duke University, a long-time IPCC Contributor, and chair of Climate & Clean Air Coalition's review panel. Did you know that while it's only in the environment for a few days, black carbon is up to 52,000x stronger than carbon dioxide? Black carbon is a #climatesuperpollutant and has significant impacts on our climate and our health. Given its short time in the atmosphere, targeted efforts to reduce black carbon emissions can quickly yield positive results. Unfortunately, current carbon accounting markets do not account for black carbon - we're changing that with our new climate registry and footprint. The Global Heat Reduction Registry is the first-of-its-kind to offer Heat Reduction Credits - credits aimed directly at reducing drivers of excess atmospheric heat in the near-term. Heat Reduction Credits account for ALL climate drivers - not just CO2 and other long-lived greenhouse gases, but also climate super pollutants like methane, black carbon, tropospheric ozone, and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), plus changes in Earth's reflectivity. 💡What does this mean for organizations? With Heat Reduction Credits, orgs can make verified claims about contributing to near-term heat reduction. With 2024 being the hottest summer on record, this issue is more important than ever.
