While Black people have a long history of investing their time, heart, and resources to create sustainability and care for their communities, this isn’t always recognized or reciprocated by large philanthropic institutions. Globally, funding for Black women, girls, and gender non-conforming people amounts to less than 0.5% of overall global foundation giving. Read Hakima Abbas of Black Feminist Fund interview on how philanthropy has historically overlooked and under-invested in Black feminism, yet Black feminist agendas offer solutions to a world in crisis. https://lnkd.in/d_uqSAGZ #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackPhilanthropyMonth

[EN] Feminist Alchemy is a diverse community of practice that includes 15 global, regional, and national feminist funds who respond to crises. Our purpose is to collectively strengthen our responses and contextual understanding of crises, and to leverage our expertise and networks to influence and transform the global crisis ecosystem.  We envision a feminist crisis response led by women, girls, and gender non-conforming people in which their organizations are fully resourced and equipped to prepare, respond, and rebuild. This Black Philanthropy Month, we celebrate Black leaders in philanthropy who are showing up, shifting power, and putting solidarity into practice across borders. Lori Robinson is the founder and executive director of VidaAfrolatina. Through her leadership, this emerging international women’s fund is reshaping Philanthropy sectors from within by shifting power and mobilizing resources to Black and Afro-descendant women-led organizations in Latin America that address sexual violence. Every month, we take you behind the scenes to meet the incredible staff driving Global Fund for Women's work. This month, say hello to Christina Williams, MSc. (she/her), our Evaluation Lead, and a true advocate for decolonizing research and evaluation. 🌟 "I provide learning and evaluation support to our climate justice movement partners in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands, as well as to Global Fund for Women’s Feminist Crisis Response and Feminist Alchemy work. Through working with climate justice movement actors, I also focus on building the evidence base for increased investment in grassroots feminist organizations. I'm deeply inspired by decolonizing research and evaluation, driven by a commitment to challenge and dismantle the dominant paradigms that have historically marginalized non-Western perspectives. My passion lies in uplifting indigenous knowledge production, recognizing the profound wisdom embedded in these traditions, and advocating for methodologies that honor and integrate these practices. A key lesson I've learned from working directly with movements is the importance of making time for trust building. Many grassroots organizations and activists have had negative experiences with donors, researchers, and INGOs. Building in time upfront to foster trust has led to more honest conversations about our respective roles in movement building, what kinds of support are and aren’t useful, and how we can collectively address and mitigate concerns about the impact of working with foreign donors on civil society ecosystems by shifting power without shifting the burden. Looking ahead, I’m excited about continuing to understand which aspects of our movement-led approach have contributed, intentionally and unintentionally, to shifting power to gender justice movements worldwide. Outside of work, I have been really excited about re-reading the poems of June Jordan and recently read “What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky” by Lesley Nneka Arimah, which left me blown away.”

PeiYao Chen, President & CEO of Global Fund for Women, participated in the "Feminist humanitarian funding approaches in climate and disaster crises” webinar discussing what a feminist approach to crisis response means and how donors can incorporate feminist principles in their grantmaking.  “Crises is not a standalone incident, but it really takes place in context. We need to center those impacted by the crisis in designing the crisis response and delivering the crisis response” –– PeiYao Chen shares. This Black Philanthropy Month, we celebrate Black philanthropic leadership that is #shiftingpower and advocating for core, flexible, and direct resources to Black feminists across the globe.   But Black philanthropy doesn’t begin and end in August, Black feminist movements face dire under-resourcing despite being at the forefront of many struggles for social justice globally.  Black Feminist Fund report “Where is the money for Black feminist movements?” shows that Black women, girls, and gender non-conforming people receive less than 0.5% of overall global foundation giving. The report also highlights the funding barriers, Black feminist movements' achievements despite funding challenges, and a call to action to fund Black feminists like we want them to win.  ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gsXfYTe9
