Uniting the nuclear sector to accelerate innovation for a sustainable, low carbon energy future.
About us
The Global Forum for Nuclear Innovation (GFNI) 2024 was hosted in Miami by EPRI, Florida Power & Light, the IAEA, NNL, NextEra Energy, and the NEA. GFNI is a conference uniting likeminded people from all over the world on a collective mission to put nuclear at the heart of the world's low-carbon energy future. GFNI 2024 was designed to change behaviors, inspire action, and challenge the status quo. This innovative experience continued the GFNI journey, started in 2019 and continued in 2022, by equipping participants from across the nuclear industry with the right tools to help drive innovation and continuous improvement in the industry.

There's still time for submissions for this IAEA-sponsored awards program - Deadline is August 2
Driving the transition to sustainable energy via strategic partnerships with experienced experts worldwide
🚨 As some already know, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) International Network on Innovation to Support Operating Nuclear Power Plants (ISOP) is launching an awards programme this year. Winners will receive financial support via funding provided by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through the IAEA's Peaceful Uses Initiative to attend the 2024 IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria (16-20 September). 𝐎𝐁𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 To recognize examples of deployed innovation unique in the nuclear power industrial sector and/or that deliver unique impact. To help develop searchable Use Case libraries that facilitate awareness, networking and collaboration on various innovation topics across the global nuclear power industrial sector. 𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐏𝐄 All forms of innovation are welcome. Topical awards are foreseen in the existing ISOP working groups (AI, Advanced Manufacturing, and Robotics & Drones). A fourth award can be considered for a significant technical or non-technical deployment outside of these three areas. Submissions are welcome from the broader nuclear industrial sector: nuclear utilities, regulators, laboratories / R&D organizations, commercial suppliers, academia, etc. However, the submitted example MUST describe an implemented innovation delivering tangible impact on at least 1 operating nuclear power plant. 𝐒𝐔𝐁𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 Examples must be summarized using the attached Use Case template, following the guidance there and explained further in the image provided in my comment to this post. Examples must be submitted as MS Word / editable files. There is no limit to the number of examples a person, team or organization may submit. Each example must be fully deployed in at least 1 operating nuclear power plant. In the case of, for example, internal innovations implemented by a regulatory authority; the Use Case must demonstrate a tangible benefit that extends to 1 or more operating nuclear power plants. 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 Submissions must be received by 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲, 2 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2024. 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐁𝐄 𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐃 Use Cases will be shared via Use Case libraries in the Member Area of the IAEA's ISOP Connect site. 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 Submissions from teams are welcome. However, should a team win an award, the financial support provided will be the equivalent to support the travel of a single winner. If these funds are shared and/or more than 1 person opts to attend the General Conference, arrangements can be made to grant conference access to the entire team, provided each individual is cited on the original Use Case submission. Use Cases already received by the IAEA do not need to be resubmitted. These will automatically be considered for an award this year. Feel free to contact me if you would like to confirm. #nuclearpower #nuclearenergy #nuclearinnovation #nuclearengineering #innovation #nuclearindustry #nuclearsafety #nuclearsecurity

This chat with Abigail Smith recorded onstage at #GFNI in June is the final episode in the #AmbitionintoAction podcast series. Plenty of insights and parallels between the aviation and nuclear industries. #nuclearinnovation #safedoesnthavetobeslow
Join host Daniel Moneghan and guest Abigail Smith, retired from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), for the final “Ambition into Action” episode From the FAA to the NRC: Managing Evolution in Safety Regulation recorded live at the Global Forum for Nuclear Innovation in June. Abby shared her experiences leading change at the FAA, many of which are relevant as the nuclear industry looks to significantly increase sites and capacity in coming years, all with regulatory oversight. These changes will require new technologies, innovation, and development of new workforce. Abby’s insights on flexibility, safety, and rapid iteration present a unique parallel as the nuclear industry pivots to better support the energy transition. EPRI's Heather Feldman is among the few who have helped shaped #GFNI from its earliest days and has played a key role in its evolution over 3 events. Shortly after GFNI 2024 wrapped up, she shared this unique perspective and key takeaways from the event with Fire2Fission host Mark Hinaman and Ryan Pickering. Check it out and look for 2 additional GFNI-focused podcast episodes here soon! #AmbitionintoAction
Mark Hinaman and Ryan Pickering were excited to interview Heather Feldman for the Fire2Fission Podcast. We spoke of Heather’s experience, the future of nuclear, and all of the incredible work Heather has done to build, promote, and execute the Global Forum for Nuclear Innovation. We’d read about this monumental undertaking, but it was wonderful to hear about the experience first hand from one of the Forum’s brainchild. Thanks again for chatting with us, Heather! Listen on Apple Podcast, Spotify, or YouTube. Full transcript is listed on our website!
