Tonight, #GlobalCitizenFestival returned to Central Park in New York City, uniting Global Citizens, artists, and advocates for a powerful day of action and music. This event has always been about harnessing the power of music and activism to drive real, tangible change – and this year was no exception Bold and innovative steps were taken to further protect the planet, support the replenishment of the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA), and so much more. And, of course, Global Citizens took a record 3.4 million actions to defeat poverty, defend the planet, and demand equity. Thank you to everyone who came together to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges. Read all about the festival’s impact: https://lnkd.in/esHvC2jB

Global Citizen is a movement using its collective voice to end extreme poverty by 2030.
About us
We are an advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty by 2030. We do this by encouraging people to learn and take action on our platform; those actions apply pressure on world leaders to make commitments around the issues associated with extreme poverty: gender equality, food security, education, the environment, global health, citizenship, and sanitation. We don't ask people for money, but to take action for the world’s poor. These actions can be as simple as a tweet, signing a petition, making a phone call, or sending an email. By taking action, these Global Citizens are rewarded with access and tickets to our music festivals and other events around the world. So far, more than 13 million actions have been taken by Global Citizens, leading to $35 billion commitments being made by world leaders, which are set to affect 1.3 billion lives by 2030.

On this UN International Day of the Girl Child, we must confront the harsh realities many girls face – including child marriage. At this year’s #GlobalCitizenFestival, child marriage activist Payzee Mahmod joined Fraidy Reiss, founder of Unchained At Last, and Missouri State Senator Holly Thompson Rehder to deliver a powerful call to action to ban child marriage across the U.S., once and for all.

We kicked off the very first Global Citizen Economic Development Assembly today in Abidjan, in Partnership with Nir Bar Dea and Bridgewater Associates with the proud support of Harith General Partners, and the government of Côte d’Ivoire. A community of civil society leaders, heads of state, leaders in the private sector, all gathered to make the case for investment in zero and low interest loans for 77 of the world’s poorest countries - all through The World Bank IDA fund. We were so fortunate to have World Bank President Ajay Banga here to lead this push toward economic opportunity. Today I’m in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire attending the Global Citizen Economic Development Assembly (EDA). I will be sharing on how we ‘Unify for Health’ through improved #nutrition, highlighting critical drivers to achieve this. As the The World Bank ‘s International Development Association (IDA) goes into its 21st replenishment cycle ‘IDA21’, galvanizing significant donor funding contributions to support the world’s low-income countries, especially in Africa, is a moral imperative. Energy access, human capital development, education, food security, climate change, are just a few of the URGENT issues that need to be addressed to build healthier, more equitable, more resilient economies that change people’s lives. As Global Citizens, let’s lend our voices to this cause. . #economic #development #funding #africa #health #nutrition #energyaccess #agriculture #food #transformation #resilience

Over 222 million children worldwide are living in or fleeing from conflict zones. From the streets of Gaza to eastern Ukraine, children caught in the midst of war face instability, and missing out on school can severely impact their social development and academic progress. Education Cannot Wait (ECW) offers programs designed to expand educational opportunities for children in conflict zones, ensuring that no family has to choose between school and survival. Hear from ECW’s Executive Director, Yasmine Sherif, and Global Citizen Ambassador, Rachel Brosnahan, as they took the stage to inspire Global Citizens to take action in support of ECW.

Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, regardless of where you live or who you are. That’s why we were thrilled to have Dr. Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and Andrew Ddembe, Founder of Mobilklinik and 2024 Global Citizen Prize winner for health, take the #GlobalCitizenFestival stage to discuss the power of immunization and Gavi’s new replenishment campaign. Join the call to encourage world leaders to support Gavi at the link below! https://lnkd.in/enDP32nE
