Dear Community, I have had the privilege of serving as CEO for Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey for ten years. Today, I am writing to share with you that I will be stepping down as CEO by January 2025. This has been the best, most challenging, and most fulfilling position of my career. Ten years ago, our small board and staff of three were enthusiastic, but overwhelmed by the opportunity to provide incomparable, measurable, and meaningful opportunities to as many girls and young women as possible. Our goal was nothing short of helping to create the next generation of leaders from an untapped pool of potential talent in our region. Ten years later, with a staff of nearly 30, serving 3,000 participants annually, we see the fruit of our labors. Our graduates are embarking on extraordinary careers. Thank you to our donors, volunteers, and our many nonprofit and government supporters who understand that the issues girls and young women face are unique and complicated and deserve the targeted proven solutions that we deliver. To our board of directors led by Lori Garber and our associate advisory board, thank you for your partnership and counsel. And, of course, thank you to the Girls Inc. staff who make the magic happen every day. I am so grateful to the parents and guardians who entrust us to help prepare their daughters for bright futures. I am most grateful to our participants who could be doing many other things during their free time but choose to be with us because they realize we can help them reach their goals while engaging with likeminded peers in safe, fun, productive spaces. They are committed to achieving a future that is meaningful and we are committed to helping them achieve their goals. To these strong, smart, and bold girls and young women: Thank you for helping to create a more equitable world where women’s voices are front and center, because when women succeed, we all do better. Your ambition will lift us all. While there may never be a perfect moment to move on, this is a good one. Personally, I’m ready to pursue goals that have been lying dormant, waiting to have time. Organizationally, we are strong. We have an incredible staff, many of whom have been with us for a long time and possess the institutional knowledge and commitment to the mission to assure a strong next chapter. Our board is experienced and serves as trusted counsel, allies, and fiduciaries. We have built a diverse funding stream, strong financial policies and procedures and reserves to ensure a transition without programmatic disruption. If you are interested in learning more about the CEO position, you can view the job posting here: https://lnkd.in/evz5TC3J With appreciation, Dena Herrin CEO

So excited to be partnering with The Franklin Institute for GSK's Science in the Summer again this year!
Led by The Franklin Institute, GSK Science in the Summer™ is back for its 38th year! In a remarkable year for astronomical exploration and discovery, GSK Science in the Summer™, a free summer STEM program for students in grades 2 through 6, returns in 2024 with a new theme: "Be a Space Scientist!" The theme invites students to investigate the challenges of exploring and traveling in space. Supported by GSK, the national program aims to reach 23,400 students across 290 organizations while providing TFI professional training to approximately 500 educators to help them develop skills to provide high-quality informal STEM experiences for youth nationwide. An estimated 7,000 students across Greater Philadelphia alone will experience being a space scientist this summer through strategic partnerships with 40 youth-serving organizations dedicated to providing high-quality programming to children from groups traditionally under-represented in STEM careers or from under-resourced communities. Some include Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia, Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia, Free Library of Philadelphia, Project HOME, Sunrise of Philadelphia, Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey, and more. Explore the free available GSK Science in the Summer™ curriculum at scienceinthesummer.fi.edu, developed by The Franklin Institute.
