In our Beyond The Hard Hat series, we tell the stories of the individuals behind the impressive and complex new downtown Indianapolis, Indiana hospital project. Katie Garibaldi and Saleem Abufares met at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. They weren’t students–but they did have a lot to learn. It was the summer of 2019, and they were both working as project engineers, their first jobs out of college. Now, five years later, those first jobs and first job sites have laid the foundation for the next phase of their careers as they grow with Gilbane. Team members in Rhode Island gathered to commemorate an exciting milestone at our Bryant University Field House project last week, as we officially placed the final steel beam into place! This new facility will support football, soccer, and lacrosse programs; the club level will feature concessions and seating, while the upper level will include a press box and coaches/officials viewing area. An integrated bleacher system will overlook the football field. Community Spirit Shines in Gilbane Japan’s Food Drive Competition! As part of Gilbane’s Community Impact Challenge, our Federal Division Japan offices and project sites embarked on an inspiring food drive competition. The Tokyo office, Okinawa office, and five local project sites joined forces in a friendly rivalry to collect the most donations for the local food bank, Second Harvest. To ensure fairness and build excitement, the competition implemented a unique scoring system that adjusted for the number of individuals in each office and project site. This approach motivated everyone to contribute as much as possible. The teams collected an impressive variety of food items, including hundreds of pounds of rice, which is currently in short supply due to recent storms. Each team delivered an incredible amount of food, showcasing their dedication and community spirit. In the end, the Tokyo office emerged victorious, claiming the coveted trophy. However, the true winners were undoubtedly the food bank and the future recipients of these generous donations. This remarkable effort highlights the power of community and the impact of collective action throughout the world. Students have officially started their educational journey at the new Voyager K-8 Environmental-STEM school in KIssimmee, FL! Gilbane partnered with Osceola County School District, Zyscovich and Tavistock Development Company to build this hi-tech school and worked closely with the Sunbridge community to champion environmental sustainability efforts.
