Gilbane is proud to have been appointed as the construction manager for the Virginia Department of General Services' team to replace the Central State Hospital - Virginia. This facility is set to redefine in-patient behavioral health care, catering specifically to patients requiring acute forensic, secure forensic, and civil commitment services. Notably, it stands as Virginia's sole provider of maximum security forensic behavioral health treatment. Spanning roughly 460,800 square feet, the new building plans to offer 252 in-patient beds, dividing them into 111 for maximum security and 141 for civil usage. The project's comprehensive scope extends beyond patient care, including areas for treatment programs as well as spaces for administrative and support functions. Future expansions have been meticulously planned, with provisions for an additional 48 beds. Architecturally, the facility is to rise as a two-story structure, thoughtfully sectioned into areas for both maximum security and civil patients, flanked by securely enclosed courtyards for outdoor activities, essential for patient rehabilitation and well-being. Moreover, the integration of advanced security, safety, and information technology systems is a critical component, ensuring a safe, efficient, and modern treatment environment. #GilbaneBuildsRVA #HealthcareBuilder
Check out this updated timelapse on the progress of our new facilities! More and more construction is becoming visible daily- in the next few weeks steel beams will be going up, and the structures will really begin to take shape. Thank you to everyone involved in this project, and stay tuned for future updates!

Our healthcare construction projects are more than just about concrete and steel; they’re about supporting the best in patient care. Our commitment extends beyond the job site, touching lives in unexpected ways. Stay strong, Vanessa! 💙 #GilbaneCares #CommunitySupport #TGH #Healthcare
Vanessa Hernandez, a brave lung transplant patient who’s been awaiting her perfect donor match at the TGH Transplant Institute, has been keeping us smiling with hilarious updates about the construction she sees from her room every day. But construction looked a little different today! To Vanessa's surprise, TGH team members and our awesome construction team were holding "Stay Strong" signs just for her. Her reaction was priceless. Moments like these remind us of the strength found in unity and the unwavering support that defines our TGH family. Vanessa is an inspiration to us all, and we can't wait to see her shine as a spokesperson at the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis walk in September here in Tampa. Stay strong, Vanessa! 💙 #WeAreTGH #TGHTransplantInstitute #PulmonaryFibrosis
