Georgia is one of only 10 states in the U.S. that doesn’t have a native species as its state flower. This was a mistake made more than a century ago when it was believed that the Cherokee Rose was a native plant - it’s actually from China. Let’s make sure Georgia is represented correctly. Call your state senator and representative to ask for their support in making Sweetbay Magnolia the new state flower. Downloadable info sheets at gnps.org/advocacy.

Great Southeast Pollinator Census (GSEPC) is this Friday and Saturday and the weather looks perfect! We encourage you all to participate in this event to help provide important data on the health of our pollinators. Each count you do takes only 15 minutes. You can count on flowering plants at your home or find a community garden. Count alone or with a group; it’s extra fun to count with kids, grandkids, neighbors, and friends! We hope that you’ll choose to count on a native plant for at least one of your counts. You can find chapter counting events on our calendar: https://lnkd.in/eavPe9Jh You can find guidance and printable counting sheets here: https://gsepc.org/ There is a GSEPC Facebook group for support and sharing events all over the state (and it’s a good place to find other community counting events: https://vist.ly/3g7cj
