We were excited to be a part of the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development's convening yesterday, that brought multiple organizations together on the state of Downtown DC's transformation. Our Economic Development Director Faith Broderick did an outstanding job sharing about Georgetown's economic recovery and strong position as the city's premier shopping and dining destination.

Exciting updates from Douglas Development Corporation's latest project at 1023 31st Street! 🏨 Their 106-key hotel recently revealed its name: The Canal House of Georgetown—part of the Marriott Tribute portfolio. Exciting news! Projected to open in 2027, 3000 M Street will be the home of a luxurious boutique hotel and exclusive members-only club developed by José Andrés Group and Thor Equities Group . With 67 rooms, a host of retail opportunities, diverse food and beverage amenities, a large-scale wellness center, and a private membership club, The Bazaar House by José Andrés is set to redefine luxury. Thank you to everyone who joined us last week to celebrate the BID’s 25th Anniversary at our Annual Meeting! 👏 🎉 It was inspiring to recognize and honor those who were part of the BID’s founding in 1999 as well as our Community Partner Award recipients this year. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser presented a special Mayoral proclamation to the BID for its 25th Anniversary, and DC Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto reflected on Georgetown’s achievements over the past several years. Georgetown BID CEO Joe Sternlieb, who recently announced he is stepping down in early 2025 and received his own Mayoral proclamation for his tenure, said in his opening remarks: “I am incredibly optimistic about the future of DC and the future of Georgetown - which is experiencing a counter-cyclical renaissance and can contribute to the recovery of the rest of the city so long as we don’t stop investing here as well. After a transformative 12-year tenure, our CEO Joe Sternlieb has announced his decision to step down in 2025. From leading the Georgetown 2028 strategic plan to driving our pandemic response, Joe's leadership and innovation has left an indelible mark. As he transitions to his new role at the Federal City Council, we are excited to see where his passion for social and economic development will lead. Meanwhile, our search for a new visionary for the role of CEO has begun. Onward to the next chapter of Georgetown BID's journey! Thank you for everything, Joe!👏

In 2013, the Georgetown BID brought together a diverse group of Georgetown merchants, property owners, ANC members, restaurateurs, office tenants, architects, BID Board members, community leaders, and engaged citizens. The goal? To collaborate on enhancing the Georgetown experience for visitors, residents, business owners, and employees. After over 100 hours of meetings and input from 200+ members of our community, we developed a consensus plan with 76 recommendations to tackle key issues—ranging from transportation challenges to public space improvements, reducing office vacancies, and attracting unique shops and restaurants. This effort gave rise to the Georgetown 2028 15-Year Action Plan. By 2021, we completed or made significant progress on 67 of the 76 action items. Since then, we have adapted to changing priorities in a post-pandemic world, continuing to refine efforts to support our neighborhood’s evolving needs. We’re thrilled that Arc’teryx is opening a second DC location in Georgetown at 3218 M Street, in the former iconic J. Paul’s space. 👏🏼🎉.
