Best Pest: Keeping the Creepy Crawlies at Bay Brian Powell is the founder of Best Pest Service, another one of Gaetani’s stellar network of vendors and contractors, and he’s got a list of of the Top Five Ugliest Critters you really don’t want under your roof: 1. Rodents 2. Cockroaches 3. Bedbugs 4. Ants 5. Yellowjackets Brian started in the pest control business in 1995 and opened Best Pest in 2008, so he knows these outlaws and their evil ways very well. He also knows the safest and most effective ways to get rid of them and keep them from coming back into your happy home. A Navy Veteran and former air traffic controller, he’s used to keeping a sharp lookout for trouble, and now he directs a team of 18 technicians (including his son, Branden), all of whom have learned from his attention to detail. He was an early adopter of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) best practices, which focus on low-toxicity bait stations, barriers, and cleanliness and food storage protocols to keep pests at bay while protecting humans, pets, wildlife, and the environment from harmful, unsustainable pesticides. You know that old saying, “Sleep tight, and don’t let the bedbugs bite?” Well, it’s not just a funny rhyme anymore: in the early 2000s bedbugs became a real problem for the hospitality industry in San Francisco, and Brian and the Best Pest team helped develop a special cleaning and trapping protocol for hotels that has allowed them to manage these unwanted guests. Best Pest also helps the city control rats by baiting the sewers where they live and breed. Next time you pass a sewer grate, look to see if it’s got a row of little spray-paint dots in different colors. If it does, you know a pest control technician like Best Pest is on the job! So, if something’s bugging you – who you gonna call? Best Pest Service, and they can be reached at (650) 588-7378.

Byron Yu is Gaetani Real Estate’s newest addition to the team. He joined this month as a Property Inspector! He is eager to expand his career in the real estate and property management space. Byron was born in Vancouver, Canada, moved to the Bay Area at 8 years old, and moved again to Taiwan for high school. He returned to California to attend college at UC Santa Cruz where he studied history. After graduating into the COVID pandemic, he worked as an Area Manager for a delivery warehouse with Amazon Logistics. During his time there, he processed around 30k packages per night from 12 AM to 9AM. After not seeing sunlight for a year, he moved on to be an Assistant Property Manager for another property management company here in San Francisco. Byron was a boxer for 4 years until the pandemic told him “you don’t box anymore”, so he picked up weightlifting in his garage. He achieved a lifelong goal of gaining a six pack and a 455-pound deadlift then realized “This sucks. I’m hungry.” He now enjoys bread, again, and enjoy cooking with his girlfriend. He is also a couch potato who enjoys reading grimdark fantasy books, manga, gaming, his dog, or watching TV.
