On Aug 12, World Youth Day, with sustainable development as this year’s theme, Judge India Solutions recently organized a crafts bazaar featuring the work of women artisans from TSRF. Though the event was small, it was a significant first step, brimming with enthusiasm and promise. Alina Zaidi, founder of the TSRF Women Empowerment program and member of the G100 Diversity, Inclusion & Representation Group (NCR Region), along with Shabnoor Zaidi, co founder, have made remarkable strides in empowering underprivileged women and housewives. The exhibition showcased traditional Indian handicrafts, including Hyderabadi jadao jewellery and intricate handwork clothing. In a deeper conversation with Alina, I learned about the program’s unique focus on sustainability. The team is dedicated to repurposing waste materials, transforming them into valuable items such as Banarasi envelopes, sling bags, bangle boxes, potlis, and pouches. They also craft seedless paper bookmarks, further contributing to eco-friendly practices. The program supports women who actively produce these sustainable products. For instance, Farzana, a widow and mother of four, has crafted and sold over 300 items. Farah, who runs a women’s driving school, creates curated jewellery. Other artisans specialize in making seedless paper bookmarks, woollen products, and even snacks and other food items. To enhance their skills and opportunities, intensive training is provided. Over the past three years, more than 3,000 women have been trained in digital marketing and e-commerce, empowering them to promote their businesses and develop their entrepreneurial skills. The program’s mission is to continue making each woman independent and self-sufficient through the creation of sustainable products. At Judge India, we were thrilled to collaborate with Alina and G100 Diversity Inclusion and Representation India to showcase this artisan portfolio. Alina's connection with the Iran Culture House has led to the organisation of international seminars, where she has presented her poetry on global platforms.
