We work with local governments & communities to accelerate progress and inspire systemic change.
About us
FUSE is dedicated to freeing our country from the social and economic barriers to opportunities that have been perpetuated by a history of systemic and institutionalized racism. We partner with local governments and communities to more effectively address pressing challenges by placing experienced professionals in local government agencies. These FUSE Executive Fellows lead strategic projects that are designed to accelerate progress and advance racial equity. We are also dedicated to sharing the insights that emerge from our work to inspire all civic leaders to think and act differently in their efforts to achieve systemic change. Our work focuses on issues such as affordable housing and homelessness; workforce training and living-wage jobs; pandemic response and health equity; education reform and digital access; public safety and justice reform; climate resilience and green infrastructure; and more. FUSE has worked on over 250 projects in 42 cities and counties across 18 states serving a combined population of 25 million people. The majority of our alumni continue to work in civic leadership and nearly all our government partners return each year with requests for additional projects.

Today marks a significant step in our mission to ensure that everyone in Atlanta has a place to call home. With a $60 million commitment, including a $50 million Homeless Opportunity Bond and $10 million from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, we’re not just building housing; we’re building hope. With 20,000 new affordable housing units on the horizon, including 5,000 already completed and 5,000 more underway, we’re creating real change. A big thank you to all our partners and the @atlcouncil for standing with us as we work towards a future where everyone has a chance to thrive in our city.

For Wesley E. Myrick, the FUSE Fellowship "was the right thing at the right time, something I didn't know I needed." Getting involved in the public sector allowed him to give back to his city during a time of turmoil in the nation. It provided insight into how cities engage with their communities, seek innovative solutions, and explore new approaches for a city like Atlanta. Myrick is now the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office’s senior policy analyst after working with the City as a FUSE Executive Fellow from 2021 to 2022. As an Executive Fellow, Myrick worked with the City to shape and implement critical initiatives aimed at mitigating the displacement of Black and low-income communities. Continuing the work in his current role, Myrick now manages the faith-based development initiative to support the creation of 2,000 affordable housing units and other critical initiatives. Congratulations to FUSE Alum Kamesha West, PCED, CNP (2022–23) for the work she continues to do for small businesses in local communities!
Thank you, Mayor, Tom Arceneaux for answering the call to streamline permitting and zoning in Shreveport. A huge thank you to Timothy Magner, Ed.D. for serving as a partner and willing to lead these efforts on the Small Business Task Force. We are making history in Shreveport, being the first Mid-Sized City to work with the Institute for Justice and Cities Work on this initiative. A huge shout out to Jennifer McDonald for the leadership and support! This is just a foundation for the great work ahead to make it easier, friendly, and cheaper to do business in the City of Shreveport. And last but not least shoutout to the small business owners and community leaders who shared their input during the town hall meetings. #smallbusiness #businessattraction #permittingandzoning #Development #communitydevelopment #businessrention #economicimpact #businessequity #theinquisitorsb Article via: https://lnkd.in/gbknYbz5

FUSE Executive Fellow for Dekalb County, Georgia | Sustainability and ESG Advisor for Super District 6 DeKalb County | Minister
ADDRESSING SYSTEMIC ISSUES, as cities across America are mobilizing resources to “go green” and create sustainable ecosystems, there are still too many marginalized communities, of people of color who have been living with the same environmental problems, health deserts and food deserts for decades. How does our votes for elected politicians turn into remediation and restoration, so that everyone can be sustainable? Lee May and Gerald Griggs point us in the right direction.

Before becoming a FUSE Executive Fellow, Wesley E. Myrick’s professional background was in the nonprofit space, where he crafted and scaled public-private partnerships for mission-oriented organizations. Wanting to impact his community in a different light, Myrick found the FUSE Fellowship to help transition him into the public sector. Beyond affordable housing, equitable homeownership is an important wealth-building pathway, especially for historically marginalized communities. Please join NationSwell and FUSE for an in-depth conversation on Wednesday, September 18, at 4 PM (ET) to learn more about how equitable homeownership can help build thriving futures for all.
Homeownership is a cornerstone of economic mobility and is increasingly out of reach for many families and individuals. To foster diverse and thriving communities nationwide, we must confront the widening gaps in housing equity by leveraging place-based, cross-sector collaborations. By implementing comprehensive approaches to increasing equitable homeownership, we can transform municipalities from places people live into places people call home – a shift that enriches current residents’ lives and lays the foundation for a more inclusive and prosperous future for all. Join us, in partnership with FUSE, for an insightful discussion where we will explore the common barriers to affordable housing, beyond the lack of supply, and delve into innovative and historical solutions to address these challenges, ensuring our communities can thrive both now and in the future. https://lnkd.in/eEkx4d4t
