The Frost School of Music's Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra has performed at major events nationwide this year, contributing significantly to the celebration of Henry Mancini's centennial. The impact of "Henry Mancini at 100" concerts, including his iconic film and television scores, was presented at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, last month. Held on September 28, this concert was the grand finale of a month-long festival honoring the composer's legacy in the very institution that houses his complete archive—spanning the length of a football field—within the nation's cultural and historical records.

#GRAMMY award-winning jazz singer Samara Joy released her new album, "Portrait," and we’re excited to share that three Frost School of Music alums—Connor Rohrer on piano, Jason Charos on trumpet, and David Mason on alto saxophone—were featured on this project. To make it even more special, the album was produced by Studio Music and Jazz professor and renowned trumpeter Brian Lynch.

Join us this weekend for Garden Grooves, a FREE local concert that highlights the incredible talents of the Black Musicians Caucus from the Frost School of Music and provides Master in Live Entertainment Management students with the opportunity to put their skills into practice. The outdoor amphitheater at Pinecrest Gardens is the ideal setting for a night of great music and entertainment. We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Professor Robert Carnochan, whose passion for music education and conducting left a lasting mark on students and colleagues. Since joining the Frost School of Music in 2015, Carnochan served as Chair of Instrumental Performance, Director of Bands, and Music Director/Conductor of the Frost Wind Ensemble. Last month, his peers honored him with the Phillip Frost Award for Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship—our institution's highest recognition for outstanding faculty and leadership. “Rob Carnochan was a peerless conductor and musical artist, and an inspirational leader to every student and colleague he touched,” said Dean Shelton G. “Shelly” Berg. “We have lost a giant in the wind band world.” His dedication to music and commitment to nurturing future generations of musicians will forever be remembered. We extend our deepest sympathies to Carnochan's family, friends, and the many students and colleagues who were fortunate to have known him. We honor his life and legacy in today’s Frost News.
