At our institution, we take great pride in seeing our students excel in projects beyond the classroom. Congratulations to B.S. '24 in music engineering technology alum Ryan Baker for winning the recent #MATLAB plugin hackathon competition! 🎛️ In just 24 hours, Baker programmed a reverb plugin where the main challenge was to simulate the acoustic properties of a space using a feedback delay network. Starting with a nearly completed code, the #FrostBuilt alumnus skillfully finished the main processing algorithm and excelled in several open-ended tasks. These tasks also included analyzing the reverb's sound quality and enhancing user interactivity. #MusicEngineering #MusicTech #StudentHighlight

In today's FrostNews, we're excited to highlight Roy McLerran, a D.M.A. student in wind conducting, who is an experienced music educator and ensemble director. A few of his recent accomplishments showcase his remarkable talent and leadership in the field, including guiding a group of Frost Bands students on a ten-day trip to Austria for performances, study, and cultural exploration, which he organized and fundraised for. He was also recognized as this year's National Finalist for The American Prize in Conducting Band and Wind Ensemble (University Division) as the conductor of Frost Winds and is the founder and conductor of another National Finalist for The American Prize in Band and Wind Ensemble Performance (Community Division). #FrostBands #WindConducting 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etEFtFg3

We are delighted to announce that Qinquan Zhang, a second-year D.M.A. student majoring in Keyboard Performance and Pedagogy, has recently been featured in Piano Artistry Magazine alongside Professor Kevin Kenner. Under the mentorship of Kenner, Associate Professor of Keyboard Performance, Zhang has demonstrated exceptional talent. Students and new alumni at Frost School of Music enjoyed an inspiring week collaborating with their peers from the @royalcademyofmusic to record Kenny Wheeler's lost music at the renowned @abbeyroadstudios. This project, brought to life by the passionate efforts of John Daversa, Chair of Studio Music and Jazz at Frost, and Nick Smart, Head of Jazz Programmes at the Royal Academy of Music, was a week-long celebration of music education and a tribute to the legendary jazz trumpeter and composer, Kenny Wheeler. Vocalist Norma Winstone and saxophonist Evan Parker, who were frequent Wheeler collaborators, as well as Frost Professor, Etienne Charles, and the Dean of the Frost School of Music, Shelly Berg, also played pivotal roles in enriching the professional and life-changing experience for our Frost community. KENAN JR. CHARITABLE TRUST. This significant funding will not only enhance the program that continues to offer music and life skills to disadvantaged elementary, middle, and high school participants in Miami-Dade County while providing the opportunity for Frost School students to mentor the next generation, but it will also further support the expansion of its services, mentors, and staff as well as the resources for the community. #MusicReach #FrostNews
