Thousands Flee from Dahieh, Seek Shelter in Martyrs Square 🇱🇧 As violence escalates, thousands of civilians from Dahieh, a heavily populated neighborhood in Beirut’s southern suburbs, have fled to the city’s iconic Martyrs Square. Families are huddled together, many with only the clothes on their backs, desperately seeking safety from airstrikes from Israel. The square, historically a site of political rallies and demonstrations, now shelters those displaced by conflict, with temporary tents and makeshift shelters set up to accommodate the rising numbers. Humanitarian organizations are struggling to provide aid, as many are without basic necessities like food, clean water, and medical supplies. Photos by @collin_mayfield William A. Dylan Roberts

It often takes a disaster to remind us of the strength in unity. Frontsight’s own Rachel Brooks was on the ground in Greater Asheville, North Carolina, capturing the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The tiny mountain towns of the Blue Ridge were no match for days of rain and overflowing rivers. Full story now on YouTube.

As promised Frontsight Media's dispatch on the #HurricaneHelene disaster is complete. Our key takeaways: 💸 When in doubt, donate to local organizations, who are the most direct responders, and are the best received by the locals. 🥶 🏔️ If donating direct items, consider things like blankets, Hot Hands, generators, gasoline, lanterns, sleeping bags, or anything that can help with the onslaught of winter in the Appalachian region. 💡 As one of the survivors pointed out, it shouldn't take a disaster to bring a community together. Keep this region in your thoughts and prayers as we move into the hardest part of survival and that is the new life after. #frontsight #independentmedia #ashevillestrong Special thanks also to my LinkedIn network HOPE Byrd and Todd Kleperis 陶德 for providing links to assistance and sound council on the creation of this episode. https://lnkd.in/eUaBXCJv

A thousand-year flood hit Appalachia. Roads swallowed by the earth. Families trapped. The storm might be over, but the real disaster has just begun. With FEMA falling short, it’s up to hometown heroes to step in where the government won’t. They’re risking it all to deliver food, medicine, and hope to those left behind. In Haiti, where nearly 65% of the population is under 25, raw talent spills out onto dirt fields and makeshift courts. But there’s no shortage of hurdles, either. 🇭🇹 In our latest documentary, we dive deep into the heart of Port-au-Prince, where the government fights to reclaim control from the grip of gang influence. Good afternoon, from the #HurricaneHelene Disaster zone. Our dispatch at #frontsight is in progress, but conditions of the front are making our access to WiFi and power a bit spotty. So for now, a brief look into some of the human stories we are hearing, and some of the things we are seeing. The Bottom Line Upfront: From our observation, the natural devastation is more extreme in some cases than Katrina was. The reason for this is that conditions in the mountains are more extreme. In a single hour, an entire road in Pensacola, North Carolina was washed away, leaving a two lane road broken into a dirt bike path. A piece of a tractor trailer pierced into the face of a church, as walls of mountain stone blocked the few houses that remained from the outside work. ✝️ Concerns about clashes with local law enforcement arose, so a group of a few veteran men built a Catholic shrine there in that little fire department parking lot and claimed the sanctuary there. They hallowed the ground so they could haul supplies deep into darkness of the shifting stone that is buried in thousands of years of geological architecture brought down in moments. Debbie a local restaurant worker was there as the floods gathered, and could smell the decomposition of her neighbor's bodies, a fact that made her too afraid to go outside for some time. Two small children local to the area who kept pet horses told me how they saw 7 body bags carried out of their neighborhood. 🚁 In the same local area, a team of veterans got together to help haul supplies into the mountains from a fire department. When soldiers came in, as response comes from the 101st Airborne and the National Guard, these veterans made a little wall around a parking lot of cots for them to keep the bears at bay when they sleep. They sleep seldom, as they circle the Chinooks looking for signs of life. 🕯️ Daisy, a woman near *Fletcher, N.C. who has cancer, was left in the dark of her trailer for so long she began to see visions and thought demons were coming to hurt her. She was alone there in the dark fighting them with just a flashlight, candles, and a boombox until neighbors came to her aid, bringing supplies and offering prayers. 🏘️ Neighbors and friends are on the line, coordinating efforts to gather supplies with makeshift diesel hauling machines, cheap walkie talkies, and a working knowledge of the backwood roads of their native land. As we get steady access to Starlink, and wifi in this area, we will follow up more. Frontsight Media has likewise gathered video coming soon to illustrate the absolute devastation of the Blue Ridge region. For now, from the front, signing off. **A previous version of this post misstated Daisy's location as Cherokee, NC. The correct location is Fletcher.
