Meet Rachel*, a recent Fresh Start success story! 💪 Like many women in her family, Rachel found herself in a cycle of economic hardship and a reliance on men in her life to support her. Even when she had found a healthy relationship, she started to think about her own independence, career, and financial well-being. “The women in my life are all reliant on their relationships and the men in their lives. For some reason, we feel powerless or not good enough to be our own person and instead identify with our relationships,” shares Rachel. Ready to break the cycle, Rachel took a brave next step and joined Fresh Start’s "Women in Finance" program. She was determined to become self-sufficient and grow her strength. Once in class, Rachel built her confidence, gained valuable skills, and learned it was worth it to invest time and energy into herself. “Would my mom be proud of me when I’m sad and miserable at my job, or would she be proud of me for challenging myself, interviewing at these companies, and trying to start a career?," Rachel reflects. "That motivates me to keep going and to do better.” Having recently completed the program, Rachel is now thriving: she's actively interviewing and ready to launch her career! "Success is being able to support myself without someone else's help. I've never been able to do that. 🌟 Exciting news! 🌟 Fresh Start has just been awarded over $700,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor as a part of the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant program! Fresh Start is one of the select few organizations nationwide to receive this funding and remains the only Arizona-based recipient. 🌵 “We are honored to continue partnering with the U.S. Department of Labor,” says Fresh Start CEO and President Kim McWaters. "This grant will help us expand access to high-demand careers in fields like construction, IT, and advanced manufacturing—areas where women have been historically underrepresented." Fresh Start is dedicated to increasing women’s participation in these high-growth industries, and with this grant, we have the opportunity to expand our outreach to underserved communities, providing job placement assistance and offering support services to motivated women who need it most. After ten years at a job she felt undervalued at, Raquelle felt mentally exhausted and ready for a change. It was hard to walk away, but Raquelle took some time off for her mental health, and discovered the semiconductor industry, piquing her curiosity. Enter Fresh Start! 🌟 Raquelle decided to enroll, and even started prioritizing her mental health.
