Growing more versatile during the 1980s, Freese and Nichols completed numerous signature projects. The project that received the highest accolades started as a chance discovery and became a unique challenge. About an hour west of #FortWorth, the historic Morris Sheppard Dam, impounding Possum Kingdom Lake on the Brazos River, slowly slid downstream. #Roads and #bridges provide vital connections for #communities. Our teams understood that long before the devastation of recent hurricane-related storms underscored how essential — and sometimes vulnerable — #infrastructure can be. The NC APWA newsletter recently let our engineers tell the story of working with the Town of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to restore a major connector road — and the grateful way residents responded. Lots of applause in September for North Texas Municipal Water District and the extensive team that brought the Bois d’Arc Lake Program to reality as a new #watersupply serving two million+ North Texans. On behalf of the many partners who collaborated on the program, our team was honored to accept two more recognitions: co-winner of the 2024 Public Works Project of the Year for Structures of more than $75 million from the American Public Works Association and the 2024 Texas Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from ASCE - Texas Section. This vital resource has been providing #drinkingwater since spring of 2023, and the lake opened for public recreation in April. Showing gratitude for our nation's veterans reflects our core value of serving always. Our #NorthTexas Construction Services team assembled 260 goodie bags for veterans at the #Dallas VA and #FortWorth Medical Center, each receiving 130 — in honor of Freese and Nichols' 130th anniversary. The bags included a variety of essentials and snacks.
