Church employees spent time sorting and filling bags with food for the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Inc. (MVFB) Operation Nourish program. MVFB partners with schools in Greater Lowell and Lawrence to provide nutritious food for these students to enjoy when they are away from school. You would be correct if you answered that they are all phishing schemes. Here’s a brief overview of these cybersecurity risks: **Vishing** This scam occurs over the phone, where a fraudster calls or leaves a voicemail pretending to be a legitimate company. Their goal is to collect your personal information or record your voice, which can then be used to access your accounts. **Smishing** In this scheme, cybercriminals send you a text message with an urgent alert and a fake link. If you click on that link, you are redirected to an online form. By filling out this form, you unwittingly provide the scammer with your personal information or may allow them to install malware on your device. **Quishing** In this scenario, fraudsters post QR codes in high-traffic areas or send them via text message, falsely claiming to represent a reputable company. Scanning the code takes you to a fake website designed to capture your personal information. Falling victim to one of these scams can be financially and emotionally draining.
