We honor the legacy of our owners the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
On October 18, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Claims Settlement Act, which granted us Federal Recognition and settled our claims for reservation land illegally sold by the State of Connecticut in 1855. With the reclaimed land came agriculture, housing and road infrastructure development, a high stakes bingo facility in 1986, and later Foxwoods Resort Casino in 1992. The Act also provided legal precedent for California v. Cabazon--the pivotal Supreme Court case leading to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 and the gateway for today’s Indian gaming industry.
