About us
FoodCorps partners with schools and communities to nourish kids’ health, education, and sense of belonging so that every child, in every school, experiences the joy and power of food. Our AmeriCorps members serve alongside educators and school nutrition leaders to provide kids with nourishing meals, food education, and culturally affirming experiences with food that celebrate and nurture the whole child. Building on this direct service, FoodCorps advocates for policy change, grows networks, and develops leaders in service of every kid’s health and wellbeing. Our goal is that by 2030, every child will have access to food education and nourishing food in school.

Today, we’re uplifting the incredible efforts of school nutrition teams to provide kids with locally sourced foods! 🙌 Across the country, school nutrition teams partner with local farmers and food producers to create #schoolmeals that are fresh, nourishing, delicious, and culturally affirming. 🥗 While every school nutrition team has different resources and funding available to access local ingredients, we commend ALL #schoolnutrition professionals who find creative ways to serve our kids nourishing foods! 🌟 Read more about locally sourced school meals in our blog “5 Delicious School Lunches With Local Ingredients” ➡️ https://bit.ly/3ZvSu5A RIO SCHOOL DISTRICT, New London Public Schools, Portland Public Schools, Maine

Thank you Orgain for helping our FoodCorps members kick off the new school year with these amazing school garden care packages!
Team Orgain built care packages for the incoming class of FoodCorps service members to help them educate their students on nutrition and ecology in school garden settings. Each package includes hand garden tools, seed packs of evergreen veggies, some handy Orgain items, and a handwritten note from a team member. As a mission-driven brand and B Corp (B Lab) certified company, helping close the nutrition gap for young people starts with our products and extends to how we show up for them in the larger community. FoodCorps partners with schools and communities to nourish kids’ health, education, and sense of belonging so that every child, in every school, experiences the joy and power of food. Their goal is that by 2030, every child will have access to food education and nourishing food in school.

“The firsthand experience of getting a constituent’s message to a legislator; I feel like my voice is more powerful than I knew before.” — Former FoodCorps Alumni Advocacy Lead Each school year, #FoodCorps recruits the next generation of #nutrition, #education, and #agriculture leaders to provide capacity building to public schools. Now, upon completion of service, FoodCorps AmeriCorps alumni have the opportunity to participate in policy advocacy as Alumni Advocacy Leads! In the 2023-2024 school year, FoodCorps selected 17 alumni from 16 different states to advocate at the state level, supporting FoodCorps’ 2030 goal: that all kids have access to #foodeducation and nourishing, free meals in school. School food is a matter of justice. Food justice is key in building a world free from oppression. And schools—among the earliest places where kids learn about food, practice building community, and often get most of their daily nutrition—are critical in shaping this world for our kids. Read on to learn why the movement for food justice must include school food. ➡️ https://bit.ly/3Lb12GC

Last Thursday, the National Service Congressional Caucus co-chairs introduced the Promotional Service through AmeriCorps (PSA) Act in the House and Senate. This bipartisan bill would provide more opportunities for Americans to serve their communities, strengthen pathways to education and employment for @AmeriCorps members, and authorize federal funding for the next 5 years! 🎉 FoodCorps is one of many nonprofits that receive funding support from AmeriCorps for our corps members, which directly impacts children and families in the communities with partner with. This bill would secure funding for at least 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, including future FoodCorps members. Thank you Senator Chris Coons, Senator Bill Cassidy, Rep. Doris Matsui, and Rep. Garret Graves for co-sponsoring this important bill. Learn more about the PSA Act: https://bit.ly/3B5NI4p
