In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we express our deepest sympathies and support to our neighbors affected in the towns and cities we serve. The devastation, especially in Georgia, upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, has forever changed countless lives and communities. As part of our commitment to the towns and cities we serve, we are donating $1.5 million to support our communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. Through Oct. 30, customers can join this effort to support their neighbors by donating at the register. To help address the most critical needs, we have provided more than 280,000 pounds of food and water to our community partners. Together, we can show care and compassion for our neighbors in need during this devastating time. Food Lion Feeds brings hunger relief to the next level through our annual game-changing Score to Give More program. This basketball season, we are partnering with 50 collegiate programs, including 14 women’s teams across Food Lion’s 10-state operating area. Food Lion Feeds will help provide 100 meals* (up to 30,000 meals per team) for every free throw made. This innovative partnership benefits each school’s campus food pantry or affiliated Feeding America® partner food bank where each college is located. It also raises awareness to alleviate hunger and help nourish neighbors. Since 2019, Food Lion Feeds has donated more than 4.9 million meals* through the combination of regular season and tournament free throws to address food insecurity in the towns and cities we serve. With a commitment to nourishing neighbors, Food Lion Feeds is donating $250,000 to support hunger relief initiatives provided by Meals on Wheels America, bringing the total investment to $1 million since 2022. Of the investment, $225,000 will be awarded to Meals on Wheels programs in Food Lion’s 10-state operating footprint to support community-based programs that address senior hunger and isolation. The funds will expand senior nutrition services in 13 communities during the grant period from August 2024 to August 2025. The remaining $25,000 in committed funds is part of a one-day giving campaign to support Meals on Wheels America on World Food Day, Oct. 16. World Food Day has been observed globally since 1981, serving as an annual initiative to increase awareness of world hunger and inspire solutions to improve food security and global nutrition.
