Day of the Dead – Honoring Tradition and California Agriculture As Californians celebrate Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) on November 1 & 2, we recognize the essential role of marigolds, or cempasúchil, in honoring loved ones. California leads the nation in marigold production, with $10.5 million in wholesale and retail sales, driving this beloved tradition. 🌱 2019 Census of Horticulture Specialties – USDA NASS • 65 California operations • 911,762 trays of marigolds sold for $8.4 million • 1.1 million pots of marigolds sold for $2.1 million California agriculture plays a key role into these moments of remembrance.
