"It's not much help to think of everything as getting worse; it's just going to be different." -Angelika Werner, PhD During our panel at The Nest Climate Campus, Dr. Angelika Werner, Research Director of Climate Risk & Resilience, challenged how we think about climate change. Dr. Werner explained that while the impacts of climate change are significant, it's essential that we not simply resign ourselves to a worse future but instead prepare for a different one. As risk evolves, so must our approach to managing it. At FM, this willingness to adapt has helped us stay ahead of emerging risks and empower our clients to thrive in this quickly changing world—instead of merely surviving. 🌍Watch this insightful panel discussion in its entirety: http://ms.spr.ly/6043mQq8l.

In his recent Forbes article, FM's Dr. Lou Gritzo highlights the alarming rise of wildfires in the United States. While the amount of burned acreage may not increase dramatically year to year, the financial losses per burned acre have skyrocketed. In 2017, wildfire-related losses surged from US$3B for the prior ten years to more than US$19B. Insurers grappling with rising costs and increased claims can impact people's ability to get mortgages and finance construction in at-risk areas. This trend underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to wildfire risk management. To mitigate these challenges, we must: 📌 Enhance Hazard Mapping: We need detailed, dynamic maps incorporating historical and current data to help us assess risk more accurately. 📌 Rethink Fire Management: Emphasizing controlled burns and selective fire suppression can help reduce future fire intensity and frequency. 📌 Improve Property Resilience: Builders and homeowners must use fire-resistant materials and create defensible spaces around structures. 📌 Foster Collaborative Solutions: Establish a panel of experts to develop innovative strategies. This is similar to the Global Earthquake Model (GEM). It's time to reshape how we approach this multifaceted issue and work together to turn insights into action. 🔗 Read more: http://ms.spr.ly/6049mU5jN
