The FDC Office of the Inspector General received reaccreditation status from the Florida Police Accreditation Coalition. This is the third reaccreditation for the FDC OIG, who has maintained accreditation since 2015.   The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation offers the opportunity for the Inspector Generals of Florida with an investigations function to evaluate policies and procedures against the standards developed by the Chief Inspector General, the Inspector General Workgroup, and Commission Staff.   Accreditation of the investigation process within Offices of Inspectors General significantly enhance the consistency and quality of our investigations.   Congratulations to Inspector General Kenneth Sumter, Deputy Inspector General Debra Arrant, FDC OIG Accreditation Manager Jonathan Hanson and the entire FDC OIG team on this accomplishment!

Following Hurricane Helene, FDC and the Florida Department of Transportation have joined forces to help rebuild, recover, and strengthen affected communities.    Together, we’re clearing debris, removing fallen trees, and working diligently to bring relief and hope to those impacted. Under Governor DeSantis' leadership, Florida's state agencies are answering the call and will continue to do so as we prepare for Hurricane Milton.

In response to Hurricane Helene, FDC has joined our partner state agencies to accelerate post-storm recovery and debris removal operations. The Department has activated inmate work squads in heavily impacted areas across Florida. These efforts not only help those in need, they also provide an opportunity for our staff and inmates to give back to the community, all while providing cost savings to state taxpayers. Thank you, Governor Ron DeSantis, for your bold leadership in a time of crisis for many.

As FDC prepares for the upcoming storm, we are working with our institutions in the projected area of impact as well as our partners across the state, including Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and Florida Division of Emergency Management, to harden our facilities and evacuate when needed. We will continue to monitor developments as they are available and work to keep you and your community safe.

FDC has been proud to showcase recent innovations in Community Corrections at the American Correctional Association Conference! Florida continues to lead the nation in public safety.

From the Panhandle to Palm Beach, FDC was thrilled to take part in #NationalNightOut events throughout the state!   We are always grateful for the opportunity to partner with local law enforcement and engage with the communities we serve.

FDC's Office of Community Corrections plays a vital role in upholding public safety in Florida! This week, FDC is proud to celebrate Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week, and highlight the tremendous work performed by our Community Corrections staff. #PPPSWeek

This morning, Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez, statewide lawmakers, and local sheriffs showed their support at our Region II Staff Appreciation Lunch! We are so grateful to our partners and public safety officials who play a vital role in upholding law and order here in Florida.

Each day across the state, FDC staff work together to ensure the safety of our staff and inmates in our correctional facilities. Through joint-operation searches, our staff detect and remove dangerous contraband brought in through various methods. Whether created in-house by inmates, dropped by drones, or smuggled into facilities undetected, contraband has no place in FDC correctional institutions.
