As a company, we have a long, rich heritage of giving back to our communities. In 2000, we challenged ourselves to be more deliberate in that commitment. A year later, the Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida was created to help communities across the state to thrive. As a separate philanthropic organization, the establishment of the foundation allowed us to move beyond day-to-day community giving activities in the markets we served to expand charitable giving statewide. In its first year, the foundation provided $1 million to 16 nonprofits and organizations that shared our vision and commitment for a healthier Florida. Now known as the Florida Blue Foundation, it has since provided $195 million in grants and donations to address food security, health disparities, and mental well-being. More than 8 million people in Florida have benefitted from the foundation’s community investments through grants, local coalitions, and targeted solutions. The Florida Blue Foundation remains committed to enabling healthy communities across Florida. #FLBlue80 #FlashbackFriday

People with disabilities face many barriers when it comes to health care. Accessibility is one of the top challenges and it’s not just about physical access. Many doctors and dentists don’t know how to effectively communicate with patients with multiple disabilities. In turn, patients living with disabilities say they have a hard time explaining symptoms and other medical or dental concerns. The fourth annual Florida Combined Life–Florida Blue Foundation Medical-Dental Integration (MDI) Symposium continues to promote the importance of whole-person health and the link between your teeth and your overall health. This year the MDI Symposium focuses on “Improving Health Care for Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled Patients.” Dentists, hygienists, and other health care professionals will gain practical knowledge about medical-dental integration, earn four dental continuing education units (CEUs) through USAble Life, and learn how to improve the level of care for patients living with disabilities from experts across academia, medicine and more. Join this important conversation by registering today for the Medical-Dental Integration Symposium on September 11, 2024. Link to event: https://cvent.me/B3MoLa

We believe there is no health without mental health. That’s why Florida Blue and the Florida Blue Foundation are working with community partners to connect people with the support they need to improve their mental health. This week President and CEO Pat Geraghty announced the Florida Blue Foundation is investing $2.4 million in grant funding this year to support mental well-being initiatives across the state. He made the announcement at Special Hearts Farm, one of seven organizations receiving a grant. The investment is part of our ongoing commitment to improve mental health in the communities we serve. Over the last five years, Florida Blue Foundation has invested $18.9 million in grants to support mental well-being initiatives.
